curious on performance

I recently purchased an eVGA 8800GTS, 320mb - literally the day before tigerdirect starting offering the 8800gt, imagine my irritation. Nonetheless I have the 8800gts installed in my old dell machine, running 3gb of crucial value ram, raptor 10k rpm wd hd, soundblaster audigy 2, and a pentium 4 3.0g with HT. Now i realize my ram is cheap and the cpu is weak. In light of that, i've purchsed a quad core q6600 and a new mobo. The ram is next to be upgraded.

The issue is performance. For a near top of the line card, I'm not getting near the performance I was expecting. I've updated the drivers to the latest revision and am currently running under vista with the latest version of dx10. The only thing not up to date would be my bios and my chipset simply because dell hasn't released anything new in ages, though i have the latest they have out.

My issue centers around Tabula Rasa. Some people in chat are reporting frame rates upwards of 40 with the settings set to ultra running higher resoultions than I am. The best I can get is the resolution right under 1650 (can't remember it exactly) and running on ultra settings I only get around 15-19fps. Now does my single core processor have that much of a role in my video lag? Forgive the ignorant question, but I simply am not a hardware guru. I know enough to upgrade, research and stay relatively safe inside my box. With other people running 6800's and 7 series video cards, I would think my 8 series geforce would run as good if not better than theirs? I realize without knowing the exact specs of their machines, it's virtually impossible to diagnosis the issue. I guess what i'mm looking for here is an educated view on whether or not my cpu could be the limiting factor here? Or does the smaller ram size on my card - 320mb - limit my ability? If so, I'll be replacing this card soon as well.

Sorry for the length and I appreciate any responses.

You can return your card for a full refund minus the shipping. You have a 30-day window which Tigerdirect does that for you.

As for the performance it's most likely your CPU, although that game in particular looks like RPG-ish sized maps. In a lot of RPGs, it just doesn't matter what system you have, it's gonna struggle for various reasons.
