Curious, haven't kept up. What's next from my Opt 145 / 146

I don't understand OCing well and have never been able to do it right so my Opt is at 2.0.

I see there is a dual core version available for $200+ and there are the standard AMDx2s out there.

What would be a worthy, if really needed anyway, upgrade on 939. I have either the 145 or 146 version.

If you are going to dump $200 into a socket 939 processor you might as well throw the money into a C2D 4300 and P965 mobo instead, then sell your old proc/mobo and get some extra RAM or a better video card. A safe overclock of the 4300 to 2.4 ghz via a FSB bump from 200 to 266 mhz should be all you need for either game, and with some basic modding skills and the right mainboard you might hit some big clocks with that CPU and the right cooling:

What is your video card? That might pay off more for gaming than the cpu if it's something really old (6600 or below).

90% of the problems with AMD64 overclocking is that usually people don't lower the HT before increasing bus speed. Drop to 3x and bump to 220-230, you should see an instant 10+% performance boost, if your Bios supports these options.

As I said I haven't done overclocking well or understood it well.
I have an ATI Connect3D x800 gto (unlocked). KN8 mb.
I was just quoting what I saw on newegg, not necessarily what I would pay.

It doesn't matter now. I posted this before I knew of a life change so now I can't afford it.
