I have about a month of stress free winterbreak on my hands and i am back in the gym again. In my current physical condition i am unable to jog for more then 15 minutes at 5mph so instead i chose to start on the elliptical machines. Do they actually work for weight loss?

This past summer i was able to lose about 30 pounds doing mostly cardio each night. I was jogging then but it gave me a lot of aches in my knees and ankles. I am 5"10 and was 250 pounds at my heaviest weight back then so the jogging was very rough on me.

Right now i am doing the elliptical for 40 minutes a night. Should i be doing more? less?

I would think that ellipticals are just as good as running, but with less stress on your joints. You're still having to move.

Thats very conforting to me. At home my diet consist of mainly vegetables, meats, and a little bit of rice. All the weight gain comes from the university cafeteria.

you can feel the burn alot quicker on an eliptical than a bike or treadmill , that's for sure

Actually for me the treadmill seems to do that best. I just got back from doing 40 minutes on the elliptical and i was falling apart at the end but i could have squeezed out a few more minutes. If i had jogged 15 minutes i would have died.
