Curious about Dual Booting with W2K & Win98

I'm considering a dual boot configuration with W2K & Win98. First, I believe I can handle the partitionning aspect of it, but are there any glitches in that area I should know of ahead of time?

Secondly, with dual-boot configuration, do you have to re-install all the software you want to use with the second OS? It seems that you would have to b/c of the partition, but I don't know. Or is there some special process I need to know about to make accessing programs from either OS more efficient? I'm not really a software guru and could easily get out of my depth...

I'm considering this b/c I want to use W2K about 90% of the time for stability in my SOHO, but may want to occasionally play games. I plan to go with a Radeon because of it's reportedly superior 2D performance, and my need for excellent 2D along with the big-time stability of W2K. (I hear the 2D of the Radeon is as good as the G400 and possibly even better. Any responses to that?)

Is dual booting worth it? Or is it plagued with problems an amature won't want to deal with? I appreciate all input.

Load install 98 first then install 2k on another partition. Win 2K will install its own boot manager which will let you choose between either OS at start up. It's just that easy and it works great. You will need to install the software individually for each OS, but the odds are that it will work fine in 2K and you won't need to use 98. Be sure to get ALL the latest drivers (especially for you graphics card) for 2k and be aware of this very helpful link:

After using 2k you will really grow to hate 98 (if you don't already!).

good luck
