I guess I am kinda having Christmas buyers remorse for some reason.

I am just curious to see what others spend on their kids for Christmas (not spouses, moms, dads etc. just kids).

I only ask because I feel like we went a little overboard this year for some reason. We only spent $600 per kid give or take a few $$ and we are totally done. This covers everything (toys, movies, clothes, games, books, etc). We have 2 kids (girl 7 and boy 4). We didn't spend more than we have in the past but it just seems weird this year.

Just curious as to what others spend, no need to brag or start fights just a question.

Thanks in advance

Greg

My kids are 4 and 2. Right now we spend about $100 per child but that will be going up a bit in 2007. Right now we don't have a lot of money because of our new house and finishing the basement.

Plus, once we're done in the basement, my son considers having his own room a pretty cool gift, too. :)

Got them a PS3 to share off of eBay did you?

We spend under $100 on the boy simply because he gets some much Christmas from all his other relatives.

i might get him one thing this year... he'll be almost 7 months come christmas time and i'm sure he'll get lots of stuff from family. in fact, we got a box of toys from my husband's dad that was shipped UPS today. i'm so tempted to open them! anyways, even in future years, we'll be spending less than $500 for presents.

Holy crap, that's a lot. We typically spend somewhere around a hundred bucks per kid, sometimes less, sometimes up to 150 (10 yr old boy, 6 yr old girl.)

OP, do you buy things for your kids throughout the year? or do they get everything they need at christmas time?

I bought toys all year for my kid, the grandparents can cover christmas. FYI, she is only 16 months, next year will probably be different.

There must be a bunch of poor people in this thread. I don't have kids, but my parents usually spent around $800-$1000 on me and my sister, yes that's each. My parents didn't have very much money either.

I dont even celebrate Christmas anymore and I'm all grown up but my parents still buy me or give me $1000 each. So about $2000 total. And they have 3 kids. I've told them they dont need to but they like buying stuff so I'm grateful and accept it :)

Probably around $200 per kid. We'll be getting a Wii this year (hopefully) for the 3 of them, so that will cover at least half of the budget.

here we go with the e-penis growth or the usual "i'm better than you" atot comments

my parents don't spend a lot (they really can't afford it). They spend maybe $300 at most on me and my sister ($300 each). usually its less.

We have three. 18, 17, 16.

Bought the 18 year old a plane ticket home/back to college for break. Paid for a new alternator and battery for 17 year old's sh!tbox car. 16 year old has not informed us what he wants yet.

 @ unnecessary comment about poor people
I'm not poor, but my kids don't need to have that much spent on them, either.

We spend max $125 on our girls ages 8,5,2
It helps that we don't watch TV at home, and go to a school that doesn't allow goods with promotional images etc... and discourages television, it really makes a difference in what our kids ask for and want compared to my nephews and neices.

For her birthday my 8 year old wanted a specific kind of playdate with some friends, she planned the games and activities, when we asked her what she wanted for a gift, she really couldn't think of anything and settled on a hooded sweatshirt, because she had recently outgrown hers. That's all she wanted.

 to marketing to children.
 consumerism.

Did they spend that much on you when you were in elementary school and younger or just when you were older?

As a child with 2 siblings, I believe we usually got around $250 or so in total gifts. Only reason I say this is because some years we have asked for cash to purchase something we wanted to pick out (laptop, electronics, ect.), and that is how much they contributed to our 'big' gift. Then of course the usual clothes and what not comes standard w/ xmas :p

We will probably spend $100-150 on my son this year, depends on what the bonus looks like. His birthday is in January so we usually don't spend a ton on him at Christmas.

Nothing. Nada. Zip. If theyre lucky let them out of the closet for the day. Do you see the complications associated with breeding?

Nope not rich, middle income ..... well under 75K a year (I mean way under). Single income household, mine. 2 cars, 2 pets (dog and cat), a mortgage, and the usual debt (nothing outrageous).

The only things the kids get throughout the year will be something from the dollar store once and while outside of that they get clothes/underwear/coats/shoes etc as needed (they grow so fast!!).

Grandparents and aunts tend to get them a few things throughout the year but us practically nothing. Oh we do take them to the movies, bowling, Kings Dominion, and what not and they will often be given a quarter or 2 to getting something from the gumball machine or we play the redemption games for tickets to exchange for stuff.

NO no friggin' PS3, not on your life.

Thanks for the votes and responses, guess I am out the norm as I figured.
