Curiosity - does it take a lot of power to boot a laptop?

I've had an HP Pavilion N5470 for a couple of years now. No problem, just a curiosity question. The battery will last OK, but I'm curious why it drops from 100% to 91% just after booting completes. After that it trickles down over the hour and a half it lasts. I don't use the battery much, I usually have it plugged in. I just wonder what drains so much so fast.

I don't have this problem with a Dell Latitiude C600. It's either your laptop or the battery.

Sounds like your battery is giving out.
