U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) met with some constituents in the Chicago suburb of Gurnee Sunday -- and apparently didn't like what some of them had to say about the role of big banks in the financial collapse.

The "Cup of Joe with Joe Walsh" event was held at an UNO Bar & Grill in the northern suburb, and "a number of topics were discussed," according to Round Lake Area News. But, as ThinkProgress reported Tuesday, Walsh did not like when the conversation turned to big banks and their power within government. (Watch the conversation above)

After one attendee grilled Walsh about the lack of regulation which ultimately allowed banks to bet against their own customers, another pointed out the presence of bank lobbyists in Congress and other financial regulatory agencies.

Walsh cut off the man, and screamed at him: "Don't blame the banks ... that pisses me off" before telling the calm constituent that he was going to ask him to leave if he didn't stop talking.

"I don't want government meddling in the marketplace," Walsh said. "Yeah, they move from Goldman Sachs to the White House, I understand all of that. But you gotta’ be consistent. And it’s not the private marketplace that created this mess. What created mess was your government, which has demanded for years that everybody be in a home. And we’ve made it easy as possible for people to be in homes."

Walsh, a Tea Party Favorite, then suggested that the federal government stop funding the U.S. Postal Service.

"If the Postal Service can't compete in the marketplace," Walsh shouted. "I am tired of propping it up."

Editor's note: The original video of the "Cup of Joe" event posted on YouTube was made private early Wednesday. We have replaced it.

Video at link. This guy gets far too little attention on this board.

I agree, get government out of the private market place. Government ought have the role of referee, not decision maker.

As for a penalty if businesses get out of hand, throw those that were responsible for making and enforcing those errors in jail. Yes, jail, no fines levied against the business but actually throw the board members and the senior executives butts in jail. Oh, yes, and take their person wealth too. If they want the big bucks, then they take the risks too. Personal risks.

Thumbsup to Walsh, he's one of the good guys in congress.

Perhaps he has other ideas that are of worth (dont know, dont really know him), but he's one of the folks who believes that the gov created the financial meltdown, and unfortunately the overwhelming mound of factual data simply does not support that.

But hey it makes for great Tea Party rhetoric, as untrue as it is.

Thats kind of the problem with a hardline political mindset, Sometimes reality doesnt support what you believe.

But for these guys its not a problem, just change the reallity!

LMAO, don't blame the banks? So another republican wants to absolve the banks of the blame they deserve. He just lost all credibility.

Good guys pay their child support.

A jury instruction frequently given is that if the jury finds a witness lied once they are entitled to ignore his/her entire testimony. I have similar rules in lfe to evaluating someone's character.

One of my irrevocable lines in evaluating someone is ifthey activately evade paying their child support (as Walsh has for years, if not decades) they are scum, regardless of any other claim to merit they may have.

And given Walsh's political platform of "not passing this public debt on to his children" (his words) he is the worst kind of scum, a hypocritical one.A hothead blowhard one as well.

I wonder what Rep. Walsh's stance is on the current travails of Jerry Sandusky and Joe Paterno. Maybe they need to hire some tried and trusted Washington lobbyists. If you see something, say nothing.

You can run a billion dollar ponzi for decades, but try running an unlicensed hot dog stand for even an hour on the city streets.

Shut your piehole. Gurnee has rollercoasters.

Cut Joe some slack. He is earning those bribes.

Is the 6 flags in Gurnee? If so, it does in fact have rollercoasters. When I was just out of boot camp everyone went to Gurnee all the time and it made me crazy.

He truly hates America and hates Obama even more, you should hear the shit he says about him.

Too bad the people in those rich burbs (Highland Park not Gurnee) put him in office.

They all really really hate America.

I agree with this guy...but in reverse.

Get business out of government. When they are allowed to infiltrate congressmen and senators' inner circles and dictate legislation that will negatively impact everyone but their very small group of shareholders, it is even more damaging than government telling them that they can't kill their consumers.

The only thing consistently wrong is blind partisanship. Crazy concept, right?
