The article is full of sensational BS like "the ipad can replace a computer" or "the only way to sell another tablet is at a loss." I'd say people don't hate the ipad as much as they hate the iSnobs who tout their iGadget like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I felt the same way when I read it. I was more confused at people saying it was an interesting read, as if it was a non-bias article on some respected newsite.

I don't know that anyone ever cited this is something being put out by a reliable news source. Surely people realized that upon clicking the thread title and reading Cult of Mac.

With that being said, it's entirely possible for something to be both 'interesting' and 'biased'.

/I didn't read the blog

Biased or not, makes some sense I guess. The ipad has sold well. I'm not convinced it's so "disruptive" we'll all be using tablets for everything in a few years though..

And toy industry, really? People buy ipads for their kids? $500? My parents didn't get me a Nintendo, and that was what? $2-300? I think they also didn't want me glued to the TV, but I guess we've decided that battle is lost now anyway.

If it wasn't for my wife wanting a Mac I would have bought a cheapo laptop to hold some photos and the iTunes data. With 2 iPhones and an iPad in the house the traditional computer hardly gets used.

Apple makes more profit off the iPad than most comPuter makers make per unit sold. And I'm not the only one to realize with phones and tablets all you really need is cheap no profit laptops in the house to hold some data

Oy, Revisionist history! The iPad was not the first tablet nor did it radically change the landscape after it.

With all due respect, the iPad is/was a disruptive product, and is/was priced disruptively as wel.

At last count, there were over 25 million of them sold, it appears to have killed the netbook sector, and has been postulated to have dented notebook sales significantly.

I'm not saying Apple invented tablets, yadda, yadda, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

Also, I'm under no illusions that the iPad will remain the massive lead it has, but, it will likely remain the most popular tablet for some time to come, I'd say it'll hold onto the title of dominating the tablet industry as a whole for another 6 months or so, then fall to the onslaught of Android tablets, where 5 or so good Android tablets manage to sell more Android OS'd devices than iOS are sold. But conversely, that doesn't mean Apple is doomed, either, it will continue to do quite well.

What they don't realize, is that they will be losing favor with consumers once the wool falls from their eyes, and they realize this company is nothing more than a patent troll disguised as an innovator (well, one that borrows all existing tech and repackages it). In their eyes, anyway--that is innovation.

I always do a facepalm when I hear this. After a decade of billions of dollars in profits from the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, reshaping and shifting entire mp3 player markets, smartphones, and tablets, there's still haters out there. Those three lines of products were legitimately innovative products that changed the industry, I'm sorry you hate the company so much to see that. You might be waiting a long time for that fantasy wool to fall off.

Correlation doesn't imply causation. If anything killed the netbook market I would say it was netbooks themselves. A lot of them were crappy and didn't meet consumer expectations. I would almost compare them to the Kindle Fire. Anyone who fully understands the product realizes that for $200 they're going to get something that's worth $200, but there are a lot of people who expected more and were dissatisfied. Additionally, The Macbook Air and new Ultrabooks from the PC manufacturers are also going to put a dent into the sales of these devices as well.

Tablets may play some role in the decreased sale of netbooks, but I don't believe that they're entirely responsible or even heavily responsible.

Ultrabooks haven't been around long enough to kill off netbooks and the MBA has been around for a long time and did nothing to netbooks.

When the iPad was released, Netbook sales were healthy, now they're dead. No one can say for sure its because of the iPad, but its more likely because of the iPad than the Ultrabooks given the timeframe.

eh, it is published on "Cult of Mac."

I imagine "Cult of Android" is no different, though.

I give Apple plenty of credit for reshaping these industries. Always have, and I've mentioned this PLENTY of times on AT.

but it isn't because of their tech--it's their marketing.

denying that fine distinction is the cult of naivety that companies like Apple prey on.

Do they make fine, quality gadgets? Yes, absolutely. Have they made the best in each genre of gadgets? no, not really--but that's always subjective. They aren't always the best build quality, either, but the price you pay for it would never indicate that--yet, there you go. assume price = build quality.

yup, duped again. ;)

Did you hear? Apple suing cavemen. Apparently Apple invented the wheel. Steve had a dream about it in the 60s.

I hate that fucking wheel. costs me about 2 hours of productivity at work, every day.

Meh, I've learned to avoid claiming absolutes, they tend to come back and bite me in the ass...

The funniest thing is how upset people get over other peoples choices, it makes no sense to me, and it seems childish.

So someone likes a product, It doesn't mean I need to get emotionally involved in their decision, and spend my days posting about it.

Just read an article that suggested people hate Apple because of the design, and that the same mechanism that helps people really enjoy their devices causes people to join the other camp too.

IMHO, the haters that continually keep posting how they hate "X"are just as bad or worse than the "isheep" that keep posting about how great a product is. Both camps are retarded and need to step off and grow up.

Ok, I think we've reached the end of this thread. I'm going to lock it. Once the iSheep appear, it's time to put the thread to sleep.
