CueCat: buh-bye. Will it be a future collectible or just a plastic POS?

The quarter-billion dollar investment in the CueCat device is officially declared a waste. Digital Convergence canned the majority of their employees last week. ZDnet has a story here.

NBC, Radio Shack, Forbes magazine and others invested millions in this wacky idea. I never ran into anyone who thought the whole concept made any sense.

Does anyone think the device will be a future collectible, representative of the height of "The internet will change the world" mania?

No, I think it was pretty useless. All it did was send you to a site submitted by a user. An example would be taking a can of beans, scanning it, and going to www.hotbeans.com. What was disturbing about it, is it has this little chip inside that houses a unique serial number, used to track what products you scan.

That thing sucked - dumb form-factor as well, why in the hell did they make it a cat? :confused:
