CTS-V vs. E63 AMG... Battle of the Supercars

Grats to the CTS, though AMG has always been more of a cushy autobahn rocket than a track car.

Frankly I would pick the AMG every day of the week because the Caddy looks so boring. I was never a Benz fan until the last couple of years, they are starting to look very nice.

How old is this video? Why do they both act like they've never heard about the current CTS-V which has been out for over a year?

"That kid" is Tanner Foust, one of the guys picked to be in the original Top Gear America with Adam Corolla. He should have been kept for the current iteration being produced.

He wasn't replaced and is still in the History Channel version.

The last gen E63, 2007-2009 was ranked above the current E60 M5 overall by C&D.

That says a lot, especially considering the innate BMW bias of C&D.

C&D

"Okay, lots of power, lots of go, no surprise there. But the surprise — a pleasant one — lay in the distinction between the standard Mercedes Airmatic suspension and the AMG-tuned Airmatic suspension. Wow. With the stability control turned off, the Benz could be pitched and tossed and power-oversteered without intervention. Think high-end drift car. Think, as Larry Webster remarked in the logbook, "best Mercedes sports sedan I've ever driven.""

That was the last model and the current E63 is even better.

Damn. I can't wait until BMW gets in on their new M5. Rumored to use the twin scroll twin turbo charged S63 V8 tuned to around 575HP, this is gonna be a nice 3 way shootout.

Drool!!!!!

That S63 engine is just ridiculous levels of awesomeness. I drove an X6M with it and it was amazing how it propelled such a pig of a car (5300 lbs). Now if only they could drop 300 or so pounds from the current 5 series in the process (doubtful). 2011 550i weighs 4300 lbs. Still, that same engine with 1000 less lbs to push will be unbelievable.

Isn't it amazing how much weight the F10 gained over the E60?

E60 550i unladen weight: 3803 lbs
F10 550i unladen weight: 4376 lbs

Hopefully, the F10 M5 won't be the same proportion of weight over the E60 M5.

ugh...it really is quite sad.

That CTS-V is awesome. It's kind of a sleeper too. I hope for major depreciation like other Cadillacs get so that I can afford a used one. Not likely, but the STS-V is pretty cheap now.

I did not know cars like Lexus GS and BMW 5 series are supercars! Oh My we have a lot of these things on the road!

Heh, I came in to post this. In respect to the CTS-V and E63 (and by extension the M5/M6, IS-F, M3, RS4, RS6, GT-R, etc) .. they're impressive in many different ways, but far from a 'supercar' even if they approach or rival premier supercar performance from not that long ago. Hell I don't even think the LF-A, F458, or Gallardo are 'supercars' in the proper sense of the word, that's reserved for stuff like :

Enzo
Reventon
Carrera GT (questionable)
Ford GT (questionable)
Veyron
etc..

Am I the only person that thought this video was painful to watch? Horrible scripting, horrible acting, way too much talking over stupid crap that no one cares about.. It was an 18 minute video that had 3 minutes of decent footage, 5 if they added a 'normal' amount of fluff.

I don't know, both the CTS and E-Class sedan are some of the most horribly disfigured (bodily proportioned) cars ever. That might have had something to do with it.

I skipped through it and it ends up being a GM ad. Surprise surprise?

Doubtful that the M will not have the same weight gain. Just look at how the M3 is almost the same weight as the E60 550i. The weight and price keep jumping up to the next series of the previous generation.

Not really relevant to this particular episode, just the show as a whole:

Damn I hate Paul Tracy. He is such an arrogant asshole ALL the time. Atleast when Tanner talks shit then loses he admits it. Tracy always bitches about car trouble and has "the experts" take a look. He just pisses me off when im watching this show.

Tanner Foust aint perfect either.
