Sorry, sorry, I know this is spammish, but I'm greedy and I'm pining just like that tnaw guy. :)

c't (http://www.heise.de/ct) put up (in print, but not on their website yet) a slew of P4 benchmarks. I put up some of them here. The results are really, really telling.

Essentially, imho, you should only want to get this processor if the only thing you use on this system is Quake III. It kicks amazing arse on Q3A, but gets mutilated on other games, general apps, and heavy 3D/fp stuff. :/

JC - no worry about shameless plugs ;) At least yours aren't *cough*extrapolations that are spammed to every board*cough* tnaw *cough* I visit at least 5 times daily (already read those benches a few hours ago :p ), and if everyone did the same, there'd be a lot less "Inte's better because....etc" threads here;)

I read at AMDZONE that DELL had withdrawn a P4 sytem they sent in
for a heads up against an ATHLON. The results were looking to
embarassing for the DELL system.
If I recall they were getting beat by at least 10% in every test
but one.
I think it was PCWORLD,Iam not sure, who ran the tests.
It was a Ziff-Davis publishing company.:)

id: If you are thinking about the same thing that I am thinking about, then I think that you are remembering it slightly incorrectly. It was not disclosed which magazine it was. My website was the source of that information (http://www.jc-news.com/pc/?peek=200010292120), and the precise quote was "there was a big show-down in PC World and/or PC Mag planned for the Dec issue showcasing the performance of [AMD's Athlon DDR system] Vs. P4. Dell pulled the P4 system when Dell found out the results. OUCH!".

Small world.

Hey JC, how is that AMD site of yours doing? I haven't been there in a long time.
