CSI fans: random question

I've recently nabbed the second season of CSI from netflix, so I've been watching episodes back to back to back. When you do this, you notice odd things....

For example, can someone tell me what Brass holds up to this face in the opening sequence to the show? He whips some little device up to his eye on what seems to be a stakeout thing, but I don't think I ever remember seeing what episode it derives from.

It's driving me crazy for some reason...

The intro is from first season.

It's from the pilot, you can find it on season one DVD. I think it's a little UV light if I'm not mistaken.

He's using it to track down toenail clippings if I'm not mistaken or it is the magnifying UV light.

Yeah, the pilot was on the dvd's, i just don't recall what he is holding....

It doesn't look like a magnifying glass, but some sort of UV light maybe

Can we get a confirm?
