I have 1.1.0.7 or something, downloaded FULL 1.0.0.2 patch, trying to get it to work. Should I totally wipe CS and go from scratch, or what?

You don't have to reinstall the whole thing.
Go to www.counter-strike.net
And download the update patch. Be sure to choose the correct update. There are 2 version. One is for counter strike retail and another one for halflife retail.

*Don't do the update in the game itself. It won't work that way.
