CS Thread... Retail CS upgrades?

I have retail CS, and I think the I have up to 1.4 updates. What is this that I hear of 1.6? How come I can still play CS if 1.6 is out, if so, are they independent of each other?
 
I think how it works is that updates go up to 1.5.. Then you have to get Steam

CS 1.6 is included with the Steam download.. it's ~375 megs or so
then you should be set
come find me.. I'll be shield glitching in a dust server somewhere
