CS Source is now officially released...

So since it has now been released we can finally test the official version of it and for someone like me who is planning on getting a new rig for hl2 it might be nice to know some benchmarks anyone got any?

System Specs:
Athlon XP 2500+ @ 3200+ (200 MHz FSB / 2200 MHz)
Soyo KT-600 Dragon Plus v1.0
512 MB PC3200
eVGA 6800 NU (324/700 16x1, 6VP)

GFX Settings:
- Forceware 66.81
- DirectX 9.0c
- Resolution: 1024x768
- Model Detail: High
- AA: 6x
- AF: 4x
- Texture Detail: High
- Water Detail: Reflect World
- Shader Detail: High
- Shadow Detail: High
- V-Sync: Off

84.80 FPS

I'll run some more tests later.

That's just the video stress test, guys. Real gameplay is much different from that. The FPS jumps a lot in game and I'm getting somewhere between 40-150 at all times... typically more toward the 60 end. It's a lot harder to play than ConditionZero or CS1.6 because of it's graphics intenseness.

If I were you I would back the AA down to 4X, set AF to 8X, and turn V-Sync on.

From the sounds of it, this game isn't much of a performance hog. It seems to run nicely even on a 9600Pro.

*Edit* Actually you could probably get away with leaving AA at 6X. 🙂

Lol, almost the same thinking here, more along the lines of wake me up when HL2 DM is available.

Just started playing it. Taking a break at the moment but I will be playing it again soon 🙂 Running really nicely on my rig.

To do the best in CS you want to be able to hold 100fps and have your monitor do 100Hz. Just put it in the highest setting in which you can do that. If you have an LCD just use fps_max command to hold it at your highest refresh rate.

So I have CS:Condition Zero and used to have the Steam client loaded and all that. But I haven't re-installed CS:CZ in a while and thus haven't used Steam. Is that how one would get CS: Source or what? A little info would be appreciated

You download steam and buy half-life2 over steam more info here & then you download both half-life2 & cs: source. Cs: source is the only one playable atm.

Awesome, that really clears it up. Anyone know if there are plans to release CS:Source & HL1:Source in the retail box also? I guess I don't mind doing it online, but I would much rather buy it in store.

well CS:source comes with any HL2 you buy so if you get it in a store then yes. You can buy the HL2 Gold pack which you can DLed and they ship the disc's to you too.

I believe that Valve will have a Silver Retail Package that'll offer the same games that Steam Silver offers. I just purchased the Steam Silver Package (includes all back catalog so I also got condition zero) and finished downloading source in under 30 minutes. I've been downloading Half-Life 2 for 2 hours now & it's at 70% right now.

And also Natural Selection source. I read that the team said they werent going to port it over though. I liked how it was just different from the rest of the hl mods.

I was reading over on the Steam forums and they've found a few bugs where the 6800 series isn't optomized YET. They said you can go as high or as low as you want with the graphics settings (provided your system can handle it) and it shouldn't affect FPS. With that said, I'm now running:

8xAA
16xAF
1280x1024
V-Sync On

Averaging about 50 FPS in games, 69 FPS in Stress Test.
