I have a Hercules Geforce 2MX, 1ghz t-bird, epox 8kta3 mobo, sb pci512, win2k, and 256mb pc133 ram. For some reason, everytime i use cs, sometimes after a few rounds, and sometimes within a few mins into first round, the game just freezes for no reason. I have no problems with quake 2 or other games or overall system stability, its just cs. I am not overclocking cpu or video card.

Try upgrading the VIA drivers and see if that helps. Get the latest drivers from nvidia too! I also saw that if you are gonna use Win2K to game, you should create a profile for just gaming. That was not everything will load on the system and you don't have so much crap runnign in the back.

I had the same sort of problem when I tried to run with EAX sound enabled. Also had the same sort of problem with my Asus 6800 DDR and the 6.18 drivers not wanting to run CS in OpenGL at 1024x768 16 bit.

I`ve notice if you close software that runs in the background that also helps,so disable anti-virus & anything else like that just before you play CS.
