Convo here:

Me:On order 104-6851903-5149849 I purchased that cable via Amazon Prime so that I'd get the cable before Wednesday night when I leave for out of town. If it wasn't so time sensitive I would have paid half the price for a non-prime cable. It showed in stock and that it'd be delivered no later than Wednesday.
Now when I look at the order I get this: "We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. "

It even shows one from Amazon is in stock (the seller I purchased from).

Amazon CS: Hello, my name is Amazon CS. I'll be happy to help you.
Can you hold for a minute or two while I look into the matter?

Me:Yes.

Amazon CS:Thanks for waiting.
I will request you to wait for today as we will be able to ship this item.

Me:So it is going to be shipped today?

Amazon CS:We can ship this item any time today or tomorrow.

Me:And it'll get here by Wednesday?

Amazon CS:Once the tracking will be update we will send you the delivery date also.
I will appreciate your patience.

Me:Ok. I'd like the order to be cancelled then if I can't get a guarantee it'll be here when it said it would be here.

I pay extra for two day service, and if it's in stock like it said it was then this wouldn't be an issue.

Amazon CS:please do not cancel this order as this item is less in stock and you have placed this order earlier you will get this order earlier.

Me:I'd like the order cancelled now.

Amazon CS:If you want I can cancel this order for you.

Me:Yes.
Well, am I in the right? I pay for prime and it said nothing about back-ordered.

I don't understand. If you placed the order today, you will get it Wednesday.
You probably still will if you place the order again.

Be lucky you're getting it in a decent time frame.

I've been waiting for nearly 3 weeks for an Amazon order. It stayed as "preparing to ship" for like 2 weeks, it finally got sent out Tuesday but courier people have been off since then so it's only going to actually start moving tomorrow. I never pay extra for shipping, because that's not the part that takes long, it's them actually getting it to the shipper.

...means that it's not actually in stock and they do not have a location for the item. I've had this exact message popup on an item that was back ordered (OBD2 Reader) and was refunded partial price due to having prime. This time it's essentially "whatever."

Edit: I have another item that I ordered yesterday that said it was the last one left, and it ordered and is being shipped no issues. The item in question here didn't even have their warning of low-item stock.

If you didn't really need it by wednesday, I probably would have waited it out to see if they would have come thru. And if not, then I would be chatting with them requesting a extra month of prime. I done that I believe 3 time so far in the couple years I have had prime and never had an issue getting it.

When did you place this order? There is a good chance they simply don't have the information. Would it hurt to cancel the item tomorrow? In the event you MUST have it by Wednesday, cancelling it today would help how exactly?

With that said, I've only had one item not delivered on time from Amazon and that was because, for whatever reason, it didn't go out as "release day delivery" and just regular delivery. So, I got it the day after release. It was a game.

I ordered something last night around 7:30PM or so and chose next day delivery and got an email that it would be delivered today. That is amazing!

There's a ton of alternative prime offers by different sellers for just $.40 more. I went with one of those instead now.

Don't blame Amazon. Canada Post had to dig out the dog sleds to deliver to you.

Usually when I order from amazon, they ship it before I even have a chance to cancel it. I impulse buy a lot from them, and have historically made a habit of cancelling things a couple of hours after ordering. Maybe that is why they are so quick for me?

I'm not sure what kind of cable you're dealing with, but did you check Newegg? As long as you have a coupon code, which isn't hard to get, I find that Newegg tends to be cheaper for common cables. Also, if you have an American Express card, you get free 2-day shipping through ShopRunner. I ordered a 75' Ethernet cable last night for $4 and it was shipped out this morning.

I don't see any conflict in the OP... You cancelled an order because you didn't think it'd make it to you in time and they let you cancel.

I had a very similar thing happen a month or so ago. I ordered a weight bench on a Wednesday with about two hours to go by amazon's timer before 2 day prime shipping would only guarantee Monday delivery. The bench didn't ship until the next day, which I thought was strange, but what was more worrisome was that the delivery date stated in amazons tracking page was Monday after it shipped. I complained to them and they gave me $10 off my next order. Then Friday came around and the bench came in on time after all. Somehow I feel guilty for doubting them.

it happens to all online ships sometimes. You were able to cancel your order, no harm done.

Xbox 360 play and charge kit (cable only). I ended up getting a whole Nyko kit. Funny thing is, that and a generic Xbox wireless controller receiver I ordered Monday afternoon both arrived Tuesday early morning. It was a little too fast.

We did prime trial for a month or so, and once we cancelled our "preparing for shipping" times have been 4-5 days ever since. Almost all of our amazon orders take 10 days to arrive.

Salt in the wound is that they keep sending emails asking us to sign back up for prime to get faster delivery and processing.

This.

Do you think Amazon *wanted* to lose your business? They alerted you that there may be a delay and allowed you to cancel. What more do you want?

Maybe you should demand satisfaction and challenge them to a duel.

I never order anything I can't afford to wait for on the internet. If I need something immediately, I go buy it local.

You can get a used Play 'n Charge cable at Gamestop for like $5-10

how can they really guarantee 100% delivery?

I mean, sometimes it's out of their control... what if there's a freak ice storm? or the delivery truck gets into an accident? or the warehouse explodes? etc...

You're not really getting it. It's not really about the delivery. It's about the fact they said they had the item then couldn't find it in any of their warehouses.

Almost no one seems to understand that "guaranteed delivery" means "we'll refund the shipping charges if it doesn't get there on time." IIRC with free Prime shipping Amazing will usually throw you a free month of Prime or something.
