Heh... reason #824 why I don't buy consoles... you get what you get. My computer however... fully upgradeable. I don't know if this game is REALLY too much for consoles, or if it's just a case of the developers over-hyping their game. But either way... I wouldn't take it on a console anyway. When's this supposed to be out anyway? My computer needs a challenge.

I used to think like that as well...until I got an XBOX 360.

Don't have to worry about driver updates, if my CPU is fast enough or tinker with image quality settings so that my $500 video card performs optimally. I pop in a CD and it just works.

Now if only Outpost hadn't backordered my copy of Saints Row. BITCHES! :|

 same until I got an XBOX. I just love sitting back and playing. Not to mention some games just easier with a controller, none of that awkward keyboard arrangement ******.

Whatever floats your boat! Personally I detest controllers. Besides... I love working on computers so it's a bit of a treat to pop in a new card or CPU. I'd get bored without a machine to tinker on.

Keyboard and mouse is great for FPS and RTS. Controller is better for a lot of other stuff.

I think that once you've used your console for a while, you just forget about the mouse/keyboard. OK, well maybe not TOTALLY forget, but it's the least of my worries

That's probably true for some, but certainly not me. My console career started with the Ataris; then when NES came out in 1985-ish, I began playing it. Then I got a Game Boy; then a SNES; Genesis; TG16; N64 and finally a PSX.... all before ever once touching a PC for gaming. So I have plenty of console gaming experience... but a few weeks on a PC was all it took for me to switch loyalties. I still own over a dozen consoles, including the Atari 2600 I still play Frogger on. But when a new game is announced, my first hope is for it to be a PC release.

That's cool, but many genres are simply better with controllers.

i wonder how you'd be in a console fps with auto aim off (which is on for every console fps, iirc)

The only games I play on the PC anymore are strategy games like Civ4 or Rise of Nations. RPGs, Racing and even FPS games seem to be fine on the consoles. I used to be an OC'ing upgrade freak but it was like dumping money into a bottomless pit. Now I just upgrade both every few years and save tons of money for other things.

Doesn't really matter much when everyone is on the same playing field. I think his point was that he can still enjoy the games. Anyway, if I want to get into some competitive FPS play I always use my PC. I'm planning to get into UT2007 when it launches. But pretty much everything else I play on consoles... including single player FPS games.

I do fine in Saints Row which doesn't have auto aim. Then again, that's 3rd person...but still.

Please let's stop with the "fully upgradable" crap. I'm really tired of hearing that. Oh, you mean how you can keep your present case and replace just about every component inside your case? That's called, buying another PC. So what, your argument is, I can always buy another PC? I've built SEVERAL PCs and I've only really "upgraded" one. The only way "upgrading" works is if you "upgrade" in a short period of time. If you wait 2 years, it's best to pretty much get a new motherboard, CPU, ram, video card and PSU. If you take the same PC when the XBOX came out, which was a PIII, you ain't "upgrading" jack squat to play games. What you ARE doing is building a new machine. And let me tell you, that's gonna cost you alot more than $400 for the next 5 years. If MS came out with a new XBOX every year, maybe I can "upgrade" my console too.

The fact of the matter is, consoles are an AWESOME bang for your buck. Gaming PCs are FAR from it. I'm actually partial to PC games, but I'm definitely not going to talk sh!t about consoles. I LOVE my XBOX (and it ain't even a 360)! There is room for both platforms. I'm actually planning on building my monster PC at the beggining of next year (it's well over due), but I'm also planning on getting a 360 too. :)

the reasons why consoles are still popular is because of $. a PC can not beat a console in terms of performance and graphics for the same price range. of course, it does make sense that if you spend more, you get more. hence, the PC.

I will never unserstand this endless argument...

You people who prefer consoles because PC's are a hassle...why are the people who still like using PC's because they are simply more flexible and scalable nothing but "nerds" or "PC gaming fanboys"?

You people who prefer PC gaming...why are the people who use consoles clueless and not "real gamers"...or whatever?

I just don't get what the big deal is? It seems like to me, to get the best of the gaming world, you would have both if anything..

Whatever you prefer, for whatever reason, just enjoy it. If I had a 52" HDTV and didn't like "messing with PC's", I'd probably get a console. If I had a top of the line PC's that I enjoyed upgrading from time to time, and a high end flat CRT that gave me tons of resolution flexibility, and games that let me tweak the visuals how I prefer...then I'd stick to PC's. Personally, I fall into the latter group, but I can understand why some people prefer consoles. I could care less what other people prefer.

I bought a console once, the original Xbox when it first came out...for $300. I played Halo non stop for weeks...then the thing got disconnected, and has about 2-3 years of dust on it in a closet...

*shrug*

All technology becomes obsolete. Consoles create an environment where things are guaranteed to work. PC-games, however, have you futzing with different device drivers, video cards and such. Do you prefer to spend thousands of dollars on pc upgrades rather than spend a couple hundred on one console? I'm about to play my 10 years old Nintendo 64 after I post this. The main point is the entertainment value, not the technology itself.

PCs have also been getting cheaper, while consoles are getting more expensive. and a solid budget rig will let you do 1280x1024 (in most cases) without a problem

Until the next heavy duty game comes out. It's a never ending battle and you can never win. That's why I like the fixed platform that a console provides.

I guess they're just second-rate developers then, considering Valve and id both manage to create 3D engines that scale up or down depending on your hardware, and run on DX7, 8, or 9 using the abilities of each.

"We can only get our engine to run under DX10" is either laziness or incompetence. Or a payoff from MS to promote Vista.
