lol yea intel "extreme graphics", i'm sure that turns off many for pc gaming. and yea place slike best buy/circuit city/frys charge rather insane amounts for even obsolete cards, and a non techie wouldn't know they were getting ripped off until they found it didn't play anything modern once they got home:p reading the box of a video card at those stores u get no useful infromation for purchase really. every card even the sh*ttiest card from 3 years ago still on the shelf is labeled like its an uber gaming card. as for intel extreme graphics, someone should sue them for false advertising

You make a persuasive arguement.

there's no argument to be made. keyboard and mouse >>>> controller. pc hardware is upgradable. it's not like it's a secret or anything. everyone knows this stuff. pc wins.

maybe for geeks, like yourself.. Or nerds.. Or dweebs... Or dorks... Us regular people like putting a cd/dvd whatever into a little machine and hitting POWER.

yeah, i'm so not normal...

gameplay > flashy graphics. i think they're too cocky about a game that hasn't even proven its success. hell i'd play contra on NES before i'd play some of these new games with insane graphics.

To tell you the truth, I've been having a hell of a lot of fun playing Uno which I bought from XLM for I think 400 credits. It's simple, yet it's addictive as hell...especially with the headset hooked up and talking to people.

I've even run across a few beta testers that have the camera setup and you can see them whining when they get beat :p

my condescension was meant to be a bit sarcastic. But, really.. Do the math - most people buy a game and want to play it. I have 50+ gamecube games. I remember when I used to PC game and, after installing 7 or 8 games, I'd have to uninstall older games because my hard drive would fill up.. with my gamecube i dont' have to wonder if my video card sucks or not, if I have enough free hard drive space, or .. well.. anything for the matter.. I love my pc.. I use it all the time.. I'm not dissing pcs.. I even use it all the time when I'm playing games with my friends - i have my pc hooked up to my klipsch speaker system, a long playlist of music running, and firefox running incase anyone wants to check their email before getting their asswhooped in super smash brothers or mariokart. It's more social to use a console - network gaming never interested me... having people over, getting drunk, smacking people over the head for being cheesy in a fighting game..that's what I find really fun.. and you don't need snazzy graphics for that.. I hope the Wii's focus on gameplay over graphics/"features" proves me right ;)

When's this supposed to be out anyway? My computer needs a challenge.

I used to think like that as well...until I got an XBOX 360.

Don't have to worry about driver updates, if my CPU is fast enough or tinker with image quality settings so that my $500 video card performs optimally. I pop in a CD and it just works.

Now if only Outpost hadn't backordered my copy of Saints Row. BITCHES! :|

CD?

DVDs are discs and they're compact. You aren't exactly storing "video" on game DVDs...so even DVD would be, verbatim, an incorrect description.

What's the difference between Crysis requiring DX10 and most of today's games requiring DX9? If I have DX8, I'm SOL with today's games, and tomorrow's games are ready for the next API.

For a PC gaming enthusiast, it's no problem. But for the average Joe, which is a better proposition:

[*]Buy $399 Xbox 360
[*]Buy $399 PC from Best buy, then get home and find out that the integrated graphics on the motherboard won't play Prey like you THINK it should even though the box says that it has Intel "Extreme Graphics." Joe Blow goes back to Best Buy to complain, then find out that he need a $350 graphics card to play this game in all its glory.

Mark Rein was right

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=18292

mark rein is a jackass.

best buy, circuit city, dell, etc, are the ones whose sales people don't determine the customer's needs before selling them a computer. and it isn't like those companies don't emphasize the hell out of upselling customers.

and it's not like, if intel hadn't put in crappy integrated graphics, that a) someone else wouldn't; b) every computer would ship with a top of the line graphics card. prey isn't going to run on the x1300tc either. intel was merely giving most of their customers what most of their customers want: cheap graphics.

I believe it appears the same in DX9 as DX10, but DX10 has a lot of optimizations which signficantly bump up the framerate.

If that's the case, Crytek isn't going to sell a lot of copies of Crisis. In term of sales volume, everybody knows consoles dominate. Crisis can be a big seller in the PC market, I can see people waiting in line at midnight to buy their DX 10 videocards, Crisis and MS Vista, not really. I have to give Crytek the credit for not sacrificing quality over pure profit.

i'll own my PC for gaming, and a PS3 for gaming. My roomate is bringing an X360, so thats all fine and dandy. :)
i don't see a problem with owning both, I've always owned a console and recently have had a gaming computer too. Not being a fanboy really helps because that means I get to enjoy great console-only games (especially the games that sound amazing for the PS3), and still get to enjoy the greatest PC games. I am looking forward to Crysis, but that will require a DX10 videocard, and that might mean a CPU upgrade too, plus another gig of RAM since I still only got a gig in my gaming rig.

If the engine is solid (which it is), they'll be able to license it for a number of next-generation shooters. iD has licensed their engines in a similar fashion and turned a profit.

Until the NEXT big game comes out :D

At least with consoles, I don't have to worry about upgrading for a few years or so

Didn't I read somewhere that DX10 is going to be Vista only? If so then that's a BIG difference. If I'm mistaken then nevermind.

I personally have never had the fun I have had from a PC that I have on a console.

I tried a few games on the 360.. I was suprised at how much of a teens game they turned Ghost Recon into. I thought the 360 was supposed to be the adult game console and leave the Nintendo machines for the kids and teens games.

All technology becomes obsolete. Consoles create an environment where things are guaranteed to work. PC-games, however, have you futzing with different device drivers, video cards and such. Do you prefer to spend thousands of dollars on pc upgrades rather than spend a couple hundred on one console? I'm about to play my 10 years old Nintendo 64 after I post this. The main point is the entertainment value, not the technology itself.

I call BS on that developer. The game was DESIGNED to work on PCs, but if it was designed to work on the PS3 or Xbox 360 then I am certain it would work fine. It's not a simple task to port any game to any other system regardless of what it is for next-gen gaming.

The hardware may be surpassed by some computers, but all of the hardware in a console is dedicated to gaming and is designed for gaming. It's completely different in that sense.

Although I guess the PS3 is being built more like a small computer with leet hardware, and even the Wii will let you browse the internet on a freeware version of Opera :p

I call BS too. ATI's DX10 part, R600 = XB360 GPU on steroids. No reason why Crysis shouldn't work on both.

That said, I can't wait to find out just how much CPU/GPU power is going to be needed for the game. I just know my 7900GT will be brought to its knees. Luckily I still have one extra slot for SLI!

in what way do you think they turned Ghost Recon into a 'teens game'?
I don't see what you are talking about. What is it that makes you see it that way?

I stick to consoles now because I can't afford to keep up with upgrading my computer, and I got tired of messing with, so I stopped. No fanboism involved. Plus I'm a desktop support tech, so the last thing I feel like doing after working on computers all day is coming home and working on computers. I'd rather just sit down, hit the on button and have some fun.

 same until I got an XBOX. I just love sitting back and playing. Not to mention some games just easier with a controller, none of that awkward keyboard arrangement ******.

Whatever floats your boat! Personally I detest controllers. Besides... I love working on computers so it's a bit of a treat to pop in a new card or CPU. I'd get bored without a machine to tinker on.

Keyboard and mouse is great for FPS and RTS. Controller is better for a lot of other stuff.

I think that once you've used your console for a while, you just forget about the mouse/keyboard. OK, well maybe not TOTALLY forget, but it's the least of my worries
