In his India Game Developer Summit 2010 keynote speech, executive producer Carl Jones revealed that Crysis 2 will have lower system requirements and improved graphics capabilities when compared to Crysis.

Other interesting bits of news in the speech were that, besides Crysis 2, Crytek currently
has four other games in development. One of them is Project W. Jones also told the audience that there is a lower-priced version of CryEngine 3 available for indie developers.

Lower system requirements and better graphics? Amazing, ill have to see it to believe it though :)

Ill bet they mean the system requirements printed on the box or whatever, it will still likely take a beast of a machine to run it on high settings.

Maybe lower minimum requirements, but I'd bet to run on high it will take more horsepower than Crysis 1.

The leap from CryEngine1 to CryEngine2 was primarily about graphical ability. The capability of that engine was farther ahead than tech could support. It wouldn't have made any sense for them to push the graphics capability any further, as they recognized the top shelf features of the CE2 engine still haven't even been able to fully utilized.

CryEngine3 (crysis2) is all about efficiency, scalability (dumbing the game down so consoles can process it), and rapid development. Because of this, Crysis 2 should come across as being significantly more accessible to the masses than Crysis 1 was.

Remember they are programming Crysis 2 for consoles.

Not entirely true. They programmed Crysis 2 with CryEngine3, which can render games to consoles. Anything that is made on CryEngine3 is going to be functional on consoles.

uh oh. Does that mean another dumbed-down game though? Crysis is still a fantastic PC game, if they turn it into yet another console game, it would be ruined.

Nope.. everything I've read so far about their approach to designing the game has me excited. They've been completely focused on making the game badass and fun. I did a lot of development on the Sandbox editor when Crysis came out, and was on the crymod.com forums almost every day. Their developers were constantly involved with the threads, listening to complaints, praising mods, making sure things got fixed, etc.

Cervat, Crytek's owner, has been pretty adamant about Crysis2 being everything Crysis 1 should have been.

I dunno im not too psyched about crysis 2 i liked being in the jungle fighting koreans, it was like far cry all over again. Being in a city fighting aliens just seems bleh to me, ill definately be checking it out though i just dont see it being better than the first one.
