I just got a new 8800GT and installed it last night (OCed 670mhz)
Rest of machine:
Vista Ultimate
Opty 165 @ 2.45Ghz
2GB DDR

The recommended/optimal settings per Crysis is medium everything, no AA @ 1280x1024 (max monitor)

Sound about right? Seems to play decent enough. Whats the best way to record/view FPS while playing?

Here's a thread where you can download what looks like a pretty neat benchmarking tool. If you don't want that, I'm not sure if there's a "timedemo" command you can enter in the console, someone else here might know.

This is also a good guide: Crysis Tweaks.

EDIT: Yeah and as coldmeat said, Fraps would work.

what type of display are you running Crysis on. My default/optimized setting were VERY HIGH @ 10 X 7 but my display is 1680 X 1050 so I run it on high.

I've got the same card as you, but with a Q6600 (oc @ 3Ghz) pushing it and 4 GB DDR2-800 and I ran it at only slightly better settings than that. The game is a beast--seriously. I should note that I eventually ended up running it in DX9 instead of DX10 for the extra frames.

I pumped the shader quality to high as well as the texture quality (the diff in high and medium texture quality is significant), but it was running between 25-30 fps on average. I flipped back and forth from the shader quality from med to high a lot and it was a tough choice due to the frame hit. I seriously spent hours and hours tweaking and tweaking away, but I couldnt settle on any settings that were appealing at 1680x0150. So, I caved and just ran it as 1280x1024. I kind of bummed me out, but it was unavoidable if I wanted it to look good and run well.

Hmmm... I knew the demo had it but didn't realize the retail did. I guess I'm assuming you have retail but if you have demo that's fine too.

Thread here at AT

Thanks for the detailed info.
I just didn't want to spend forever screwing with it... I'm more or less happy with the settings now, I just didn't want to be missing out either ya know? I'll run some FPS tests to see where things are but I have a feeling I'll end right where I am.

Sounds right. My dad is running it on a P4 2.3Ghz, 1G DDR and an 8300GT at Low with smooth framerates (cept for the higher quality cut scenes it seems). Still looks nice. I don't see why it isn't selling so well.

So the second best videocard on the market can only run it at medium? Well fuck. Does it at least look good at medium?

It looks great at medium...as good as anything else available now. For me, setting everything to medium except for textures (high) and shaders (high) is quite playable and lovely. I'm running an 8800GT @ 650 core with an AM2 4600+ and 2GB DDR2.

The second time through the game at max difficulty is a blast.

Hm... I had basically the same question... I turned all my settings to high and it plays fine so far. I don't notice a difference. Is high only useful on vista with dx10?

Running a 4000 x2 / 8800 GT 512 / 2gb / XP SP2

I have the same card, same amount of memory and a x2 3800 and I set it to high at either 1280 or 1024 and it plays fine.

Slows down when things go boom but otherwise works for me.
