What did I do?

Read this

Put everything on high, then add the "very high on the cheap" commands to System.cfg or autoexec.cfg (either one needs to be created in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Game\Config) or even in the target line of your shortcut. Select your native resolution, leave AA turned off (oooooobviously, FSAA kills anything in it's path)

You do not need SLI to run this smoothly. I do because of my behemoth resolution, but 1920x1200 should run just fine on a GTX or Ultra. 1680x1050 should be fine with a GT, and anything below its a walk in the park.

This is the best way to run Crysis folks. Hope you enjoy.

I'm running using this method too but 1920X1200 seems a bit too much for the single GTX so I turned it down to 1680X1050.

The very high cvars do a better job and it looks nicer than just the "cheap" method.
And if you turn off motion blur which i hated anyway, then it plays pretty well on a single 8800GTX at 1680x1050.

Now as soon as theres a card out that will play DX 10 - very high - 4x AA - 16x aniso- 1920x1200 and stay in the 60fps range then they can claim the "real" directx 10 cards have arrived in my opinion.

Until then, the winxp and "directX 9.8 method" works just fine for me too....LOL

BTW: Loved the game, thought it was great!

try to keep that setting when you get into the big battle scene.

my fps went from 30 avg, to 16 avg.

this is with an 8800gts 320mb, on high settings, 1280x1024. (no aa)

The main reason I even put up with Crysis is the shader effects. The problem with DX9 mode is that while you can hack some of the niceties to work in DX9, you still lack a lot of the DX10-only shader effects. If I was relegated to playing DX9 I would rather play Gears of War or COD4, since they look much better. To me Crysis looks like an unoptimized version of HL2 engine with some nice shader effects.

For example, in compared to your photo, the sun looks different in DX10 mode and the lightning really stands out.

I have to run most things medium, but i'm managing 2560x1600.

I tried the "high on the cheap" (DX9 mode), but that was too low fps.

I haven't gotten very far into this game, but wow it's been great thus far.

I tried to run everything high on my 3ghz e6600 and a GTX. i'm pretty sure if my cpu was clocking closer to 3.5-3.6 range or I was on a quad core then it would have been smoother

I didn't bench it but it was so close to being butter smooth I wasn't upset (at 1920*1200) - 1680*1050 was more than smooth even under fire fights
