ok this issue is really driving me nuts!!!

I have a sony 26 inch lcd tv which does not have dvi or hdmi.

It has vga and component inputs.

Native Resolution: 1366 x 768

Max Supported Pc Resolution: 1280 x 768

HDTV Resolutions Supported: 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i

Currently I have my pc connected to it via vga.

When I get a new graphics card I plan on connecting it to the lcd via the hdtv adapter to the component inputs.

I am looking forward to playing Crysis on this lcd.

What I would like to know is which of the above resolutions would be best and
what kind of graphics hardware should I be looking at to run at that resolution.

I know that for running Crysis at 1280 x 768 a 8600gts might do but for 1900x1200
you need 8800gtx.

So is this right?

720p = 8600gts

1080i = 8800gtx (Image quality wise... is this better?)

Also, which is better for this kind of setup nvidia or ati?

I really want this cleared up. Thanks in advance...

I don't know about everyone else's crystal ball but mine has been cloudy lately. BTW, whick do you think will be faster the 2010 Corvette or the 2010 Viper. Can somebody please, I mean please clear this up for me because I'm trying to save up and I need to know ASAP!!!! I want to future proof my bank account for whichever car gets to 88 m.p.h. faster. Also I want to start stock piling gas now before it becomes real expeneive cause I'm sure my car will be a pig when I get it.

Sorry I didnt answer any of your questions but the redundancy of these will (X) graphics card be enough for (x) resolution for games that aren't out are starting to kill me

I managed to hook up my ATI X1950XTX via its DVI out to my LCD 42" TV which has HDMI in. I got the adaptor and my TV can do 1080p but that resolution is nuts

If your TV can handle 720p natively I would shoot for that resolution. Having an insane resolution on your TV makes it look way too small.. hard to see. My TV can do 1080p but I cannot see a DAMN thing when I play at that resolution.

720p, or 1280x720 is just fine for me. Again I don't pretend to know your likes or dislikes but that resolution everything looks amazing. It does not strain my X1950XTX at all for whatever game I play.

I cannot see an 8600gts NOT being capable at running anything at 1280x720.. if my ATI can do it and higher, then that should be just fine.

If you insist on 1920x1200 with everything turned on, I would surmise that yes an 8800GTX or ATI 2900XT would be 'better" but not to say your card cannot do it. It would jsut mean you would have to turn down some of the eye candy.

As for quality, honestly from what I have read, both ATI and Nvidia are really good (quality wise). I have had some issues in the past with the Nvidia drivers trying hard to work with high resolutions and getting LCD monitors to sync properly to the correct native resolutions whereas my ATI X1950XTX absolutely LOVES being hooked up to my TV. I also use the system as my HTPC. Avivo works nice!
