Just finished the game, replayed the end sequence on all settings Very High, and here's what I got, check the Physical Memory Usage and Page File usage at the bottom...I believe that Page File number is actually the Commit Charge:

http://img67.imageshack.us/img...sisveryhighcropaj0.jpg

Vista 64
e6400 @ 3.2
8800GTS 640 @ 600/1400/900
4gb ram
1280*1024

edit: 0xAA

Sure, it was slideshowish, but worth it.

Wow.

It's still got scabs on its knees from the ice sequences. I won't pull any punches...there were some parts of the game like the ice parts that I turned my settings down to medium, just to play through them without any framerate issues. Until the first appearance of frost, I was running well on all Very High with Shadows and Post at Medium. After that I switched the Very High ones down to High...then sometimes to Medium.

Still worthwhile to play. Now I have to think up an excuse why I'm going to be late to work tomorrow ;)

Damn, what does this game need to run it at 1920x1200 16xAA 16xAF Very High setting in DX10 @ 60FPS.

Quad phase overclocked 8800U SLI
8GB DDR3 2000Mhz ram 5.5.5.15
Phased cooled Quad Core @ 5.0Ghz
2x Gigabyte i ram raid 0
4x 80GB raptor Raid 0

Heh, you only use 750mb of ram when in Vista ? I use about 950mb, and when I just checked I'm using 1.15gb of ram -_- I gotta find a way to get that number down, with only 2gb that's quite a lot ...

@ Tuteja, what it needs is prolly 2 sli-ed 9800gtx's, or perhaps qaud HD3870's.

As stated time and time again, by the CREATORS of Crysis, you'll need hardware that does not yet exist.

Hmmm, that is wierd, it's usually around 1.2gb. The good thing is, Vista uses memory much more efficiently than XP does.

I gave it a try last night at 1920x1200 with 4xAA. Everything defaulted to Very High. It was .... unpleasant. 1fps at best. Turning off AA and shadows got me up to ~12fps.

I've just gone back to running the game at 1920x1200 after deciding that dropping the resolution didn't improver performance sufficiently to make it worth the trade off.

Turning off AA made a big difference for me. Settings set to "High" vs. "Very High" made the game playable if you consider sub 20fps "playable." The problem with the game is not only how low the framerates are even with a top line system, it's getting a consistent framerate that's impossible. I can get 30fps, move five feet and it drops to 9fps.

I know that no current rig can play this game on max settings, but I never imagined that it would be quite this bad on simple "high" settings. I'm tempted to install it on my XP partition and run it in DX9.

Oh, and am I imagining it or does the game's framerate crash after a save?

C'mon patch (next week I hear). C'mon new Nvidia Beta drivers.

how do the game developers code/test their games? do they get advanced copies of hardware that comes out to consumers 5 yrs in advance or somethng?

No, they simply add enough bells and whistles to the highest video settings that it'll take more horsepower than current cards have to play it.

You dont need to run EVERYTHING on the highest settings for this game to look amazing, but it's great that they made it so that this game will look better and better as the hardware catches up to it and you can continue to turn the settings up.

If you dont like that you cant play it with everything maxed, don't buy it or get yourself a degree and build a more efficiently coded game. Personally i think they did an awesome job and look forward to playing the game on higher settings as the hardware becomes available.

If you want all your graphics to be maxed out on your pc every time, get a console, otherwise deal with the fact that PC games dont always run at the highest settings when they are first released... in fact, it seems that "High" has become the standard for high end hardware at the time of release for many games, with "Very High" a bonus feature for hardware thats on the horizon.

I think they're able to reasonably assume based on certain tests that it will run just fine at those insane settings once the hardware is available to do so. Developers surely have systems like Woofmeister's that are set up in labs where they will run the game on the highest settings (and get 2fps), but there isn't any advanced hardware allowing them to "truly" test those settings. It seems kind of weird to me too.

I overclocked my E6600 to 3.0GHz, which seemed to help with getting a consistent frame rate out of my solo X1900XT. with all settings on High except for Particles, Shaders, and Volumetrics on Medium, I pulled between 20 and 30 fps for most of the game, but that dropped down to about 12 on the carrier deck, so I had to turn everything down to Medium with Particles/Shaders/Volumetrics on Low to get 30fps. all settings on High (Very High is not selectable with a DX9 card) and 4xAA, I got ~3fps in the opening "plane flying through clouds" cinematic. turning down the Shader quality to Medium was a sad sacrifice, as the game looked flippin' gorgeous on High, but it nearly doubled my framerate.

I did upgrade my video drivers to Catalyst 7.11 before installing the game, but I did not install the "Crysis hotfix" for ATi cards, and I did not experience any missing or blurred textures. the r_displayinfo diagnostics told me that I was using around 2GB, though I never checked to see what Windows thought about those numbers.

For me the difference was negligable, but try it out before going through partition/edit MBR process.

Thanks, I knew that. I guess I misspoke, I meant to say that I thought Crysis would probably run better under XP.

Go steal whatever $10,000 workstation they developed it on. And be sure to poop in their trashcan on the way out for the DRM.

Comeon!
Drop the insane resolutions, ditch AA (which doesn't work for vegetation anyway), use the ingame edgeAA and play in DX9 XP with tweaked very high and be happy.
I played through the game at a low and behold: 1280x800 resolution, everything on high with the best features of very high enabled (sunshafts, parallax occlusion mapping, battledust, more and distant vegetation wind) and got over 30fps all the time. It was smooth and never had serious drops.
Except of course during WW3 on the flightdeck at the end... loved firing the minigun in slowmo mode.
This game eats through shader units like crazy so just lower the resolution.

I had to do a mobo reset recently and forgot to OC my x2 3800+ The game ran like ass! I was getting stuttering all overt he place on med/high settings, it was terrible. I OC'ed up to 2.6Ghz, and all was well :)
