Crysis auto runs in DX10 with a DX10 card & Vista?

I'm running on a machine with a 3850 and Vista 64 Ultimate. Launched Crysis, and noticed it said DX10 build in the top left corner when the game was starting.

My current in game settings are set to 1024x768 @ medium details across the board, with 8xAF forced in my drivers.

Question is...is the game actually running in DX10 mode with merely medium settings? I thought you had to set the game to very high settings for DX10 mode to turn on. My main concern is that if this is running in DX9 mode, then the performance numbers I recorded aren't really any better than an X1950pro I had in this machine, albeit the max fps numbers are higher.

Its running in dx10 mode. Crysis automatically runs in dx10 when you launch it with Vista OS and a compatible DX10 GFX card. To run in DX9 mode go to the 'Games' tab in your start menu then right click Crysis and go 'Run in DX9'.

Thanks Sylvanas. I had just benched WiC and Crysis, and was very surprised to see the differences being a couple FPS. Realized that in WiC, I'm heavily CPU bound, and in Crysis as you pointed out, I was running in DX10 mode. Now there's a pretty noticeable difference in Crysis, but I can tell I'm still badly CPU bound. This system only has an E2140 @ 2.9Ghz.

I'll take a couple screenshots when I get home today and see if I can make a mouseover to highlight the differences.

Haven't had much free time to throw em up on a page, but I did throw the images up on imageshack. I know it sucks, but it's just temporary.

Main differences I saw is that in high, the shadows from scenery were more detailed, and there were rail cables in the bottom left by the bridge. More trees and shrubs were drawn at farther distances, and in a slightly more detailed manner.

In DX10, the lighting was much better and more realistic.
