I am sorry to post about this dreaded topic, i am sure most of you have already "been there done that"

But i just got into crysis and warhead (right now mostly crysis though) due to an updated video card and would like to know what settings can be lowered a bit to raise the FPS

Right now i play on 16x10 res with everything on very high, except shadows are medium, dropping the shadow quality helped a lot, so i would like to ask which settings can i lower and not notice the difference in picture quality but get better fps ?

Oh and yes i did google this and obviously came up with many links, but they all describe what the settings actually do and i just want to know what your experiences are with them...

modern video cards still have problems with Crysis?

i have crossfired HD4850s and they ran Crysis at over 100 FPS and this was like a year or more ago.

You weren't playing the game maxed out then, unless you play at 800x600 or something silly.

I've seen this recommended around here before. I'm not sure if it's the best config, but it's what I use and it seems to work alright.

textures will help a lot. lower quality textures = less memory

post processing effects can come down too.

but yea, shading is the most brutal one. make sure AA is off.

1680x1050 everything maxed.

If it's not possible then FRAPs was lying to me.

Definitely should not be. My old system had a 4870 1gb and 3.85ghz dual core and I was not getting anywhere near even 50 fps average unless I was looking at a wall the whole time.

Just go to the Anandtech Bench. No way XFire 4850's could get that consistently. He had to have no AA which Crysis needs more than any game and was probably staring at the sky when the fps went to 100 as proof that he got 100fps in-game.

maybe not consistently but often enough that i noticed it. I think consistent was around 60-70. no, not looking at the sky either.

Both games are still extremely demanding with full details. I co-wrote a piece that analyzed performance and IQ with differing in-game settings.

Google “crysis performance investigation”; it’s the second hit in the list.

textures will help a lot. lower quality textures = less memory
Actually the difference is less than 2% by changing the texture settings on both a 4870 (512 MB) and a 8800 Ultra (768 MB).

thanks guys, yeah i read that tweaksguides article a while back forgot about it ,,,

i used fraps and the game idles at 40FPS, by idle i mean when you are just standing there staring at the sunset or something not moving not doing anything active..

when shooting against like 3 - 4 enemies in heavy action it does dip below 20 FPS and this goes on all the time, i want to raise my min FPS, ill try a few of the settings mentioned and see if i can live without that extra eye candy...

This is actually an easy one, everything can be at max but you will need to drop Object Detail down a notch. This will result in the rocks/rubble draw distance being reduced, honestly when you're busy fighting stuff like this is is not noticeable. It has a significant impact of performance.

The next is Shader Quality. The game still looks awesome on High shaders so just drop it and be done with it. High is really beautiful, and it has an impact on performance.

With those two dropped you should be in the low 50's I'm guessing, which is a good place to be.

:edit: wait I was thinking of 1920 res, you're on 1680x1050? Drop AA to 2xAA, you must have it at 4 or something. You're definitely fine with that dropped to 2x.

Try the Natural Mod as well since those tweaks make the game look great and runs well even at higher resolutions.

I've been trying to play crysis maxed out for over two years and i can just now actually do it.

Started with a AMD 7750@3.0Ghz w/ 4830, then went to a PH II 940@3.6Ghz w/4890. Now have a i7 930@4.2Ghx with SLI GTX 460's(800Mhz)

As for playing it maxed at 100fps with CF 4850's good luck.

I noticed AA is brutal to the FPS but you really need at least 2x to make it look good, shadow detail has a large impact as does object detail.
