how do you the timedemo?

googled it with no luck..

Go to the folder that the demo is installed in. If you are running a 32bit OS go to the bin32 folder, for 64bit OS go to the bin64 folder. There are 2 batch files in there, one is for a CPU benchmark, the other for the GPU benchmark.

Question:
I have a widescreen monitor..1680x1050
I have C2D at 3600 with x1900XT w/ XP pro 2GB ram
could I run crysis at 1680x1050 at medium setting no AA/AF and have it playable

How much better would a 8800GT be?..as I could get this for $270 plus tx or wiat a month and get it at $250 or less

I'd guess you would roughly double your performance with an upgrade like that. It wouldn't allow you to crank the settings (seemingly nothing will) but it should allow you to bump them up considerably from you would have have to use now. When the retail game ships I'm sure we'll see some of the most detailed benchmark articles ever, I'd wait for those to inform your decision. My guess is you would be better off waiting 6 months for a true next gen card.

It should be playable at those settings, the 8800GT will be better of course, but not sure how much better. I'd wait to see how the retail release does too, since apparently the demo isn't optimized for multi-core CPU's.

Everyone seems to be advocating lowering your resolution. So if I have a HQ 1600x1200 flat panel (Dell 2007FP) why would I want to run something other than the native res? Anything other than the native resolution always looks like shit on LCDs. So going lower res to enable features doesn't really make sense.

Also not throwing down $$ for SLI just to get acceptable framerates. Be interesting to see if the actual RTM code improves the experience, otherwise it's a pass for me.
