Crysis 3 with 4x7970's in crossfire with 3x30 dells

Well I installed crysis 3 today and was shocked how poorly it uses Crossfire.

Need all 4 cards to work to push my resolution @7680x1600

With only 2 cards the gpu loads are 100% each

With 3 card the gpu load also drops to about 40-50%

When I have 4 cards in crossfire I only get 40-50 % load on the cards.

So my performance is the same with 2 cards 3 or 4 video cards..Wish I could find a fix.

I overclocked my 3930k to 4.8ghz and the fps did not increase nor gpu loads. so its not a cpu bottleneck.

I read that crisis 2 had the same broken scaling for crossfire.

My 6990 quadfire yields similar results, at 1920x1200 I get 50% usage on each GPU, when I drop to 1024x768 I get 50% usage on each GPU. Seems the game or profiles are borked.

Wow! What PSU are you using for a 4 7970 rig setup?😱😱

Could it be a vram bottleneck? The game needs more than 2gb at 2560x1600 at maximum settings and you are running 3 monitors, although I am assuming that you have 3gb models and are attempting to run VHQ...

...If that's the case, you could try and see what happens when you reduce the vram load by lowering the settings for textures, antialiasing and resolution.

Really? I had three 7970s with an AX1200 and thought I was at my limit there.

Did you ever measure it? Average system power with just a single non-overclocked 7970 GHz is still around 350W... each 7970 should only add another 200W (it has a powertune limit of 250W).

Assuming you're not stress-testing, a 1200W PSU should be able to drive 4 7970s.

I lowered AF AA and switched to low texture detail, still gpus only at a 50 to 60% load.. Broke broke broke..

until software utilization catches up.

software utilization to use all 6 cpu core.
and
software utilization to use all 4 gpu core.

it gonna suck until then.

Apparently, Crysis 3 does use extra threads/cores quite well. You can see the lower clocked 3930/3960 beating the 3770. This looks like scaling beyond 8 threads.

With the next Playstation using an AMD 8core APU, there's the opportunity for this to catch on. :crossedfingers:
