Crysis 2 question

I heard that (a) good AA quality could be acquired, under DX11, by editing the config file with a value of 3 for edge AA, and something like 2 for "post-MSAA". However, I've also heard that (b) FXAA is the only way to get AA in DX11 mode. Which is true?

I've never played it. However, I was considering playing it (but only if you can edit the config file in DX11).

If you're going to get into Crysis2 for maximum graphic quality, then you need to download the MaLDoHD mod.

It has over 1000 new textures (on top of the CryTek high-res pack) and also comes with a super-nice config tool that puts a GUI to those console commands.

Here ya go:

The setting in the config only give a placebo effect. Nothing changes. Game only, it's FXAA or nothing now in DX11.

Are there instructions for how to apply the mod, I've never done this before...

Thanks!

Does anybody have a mirror for this mod? It seems the linked homepage for it is down, and the author has no idea when it's coming back up. :(

Hmm....yeah, the links are down. I would host it, but it's over 800 MB compressed and my ISP won't let it upload.

Installation is pretty simple for 3.0.....it comes with an installer that does everything.

You just need to make sure you're update to Crysis 2, 1.9 and have the DX11 and High-Res Texture Packs installed (the official Crytek stuff).

how come the digital versions like Steam just doesn't come with the DX11 and Hires pack?
the maximum edition came out on steam not too long ago and considered getting it, but maybe when its like $10 cause its not really that great of a game, especially having beat it once already.

I'm not really sure, but it could be because they aren't bug patches per se, like the 1.9 Patch that does come from Steam or Origin. However, it's pretty lame that the game didn't come with DX11 running on release. Other than requiring a 64-bit system, I don't see how making them available would be a problem. Crytek simply should have released all of this with the game in the first place - - hopefully they learned their lesson and won't do the same thing with Crysis3.

If anybody needs a download link to the DX11 / High-Res Crytek packs....here is that:

DX11 mode is worthless IMO, since the only AA it works with is FXAA. The fact that the DX11 code path doesn't work with proper AA boggles my mind.

What nvidia should've done was shader-based edge detect AA and do it with double floating point precision, even though that would make it super slow.
