Crysis 2 looks like crap

Ok, so its been a while since I played Crysis 2. I've been hooked on BF3 since the Alpha release and have only been playing that, but recently decided to give Crysis 2 another try with my new 670's. I was shocked at how terrible the game looks and I am still wondering if something is not right with my rig or settings.
The game looks very blurry and grainy, and also when I pan left to right, the image breaks up in little skipps and is very stuttery looking, despite the high FPS. I tried turning motion blurr off and it still looks so terrible. What the hell is going on with this game? I played it before and can't remember it looking this terrible.

Let's start with the obvious. In the process of switching out your GPU, which I assume you updated your drivers and aren't using the incredibly outdated ones that came on the disc, did you check to make sure your game settings weren't reset and that your actually operating at the right resolution and game settings? I know it's silly but it happens.

Yes, I am running on a new windows installation with the latest drivers and playing at native 1920x1080. I swear it seems like a driver issue or something, but I did some googling and lots of people complained about the game looking grainy and terrible. I duno, maybe thats just the way it is. I'm playing with high res textures and DX11. Maybe i'll try downloading one of those advanced graphics modifiers and try using real AA.
Also, the game shows its using all 2gb of Vram, which seems totally ridiculous for 1080p.

Crysis 2 with MalDoHD looks far better than BF3, to me. Especially considering some of the absolutely horrible vegetation and low quality models BF3 has littered about. The real-time reflections and shadows in Crysis2 are also better than I've seen in ANY game.

Maldo is a mod though. There are mods out there for quite a few games, including Crysis 1, that also look amazing. They don't always play well, but it's impressive the amount of improvement that can be had. I played a modded Stalker recently, looked pretty damn good considering how ancient it is.

stock v modded isn't really a fair shake though, and Crysis 2 stock was definitely a letdown graphically.

Well, not really "fair," I suppose, but I think I'm just less impressed with BF3 than everybody else seems to be.

Ever take a look at the frame on the IRNV scope? The thing looks sort of like an octagon. The weapons modeling in Crysis 2 is so much better than BF3. A lot of the vehicles, rocks, and props in BF3 are just hideous.

I'm not ignoring some ugly stuff in Crysis 2.....there's plenty of it there, too, but overall the modeling quality seems so much better than BF3.

Despite the comparisons, they're both awesome looking games. BF3 lighting is fantastic.

It's a crappy looking game. The first one blows it out of the water.

This is the opinion I just don't get. Ignoring mods and comparing stock to stock I can't see how anybody could say Crysis 1 still looks better. I played it for the very first time before the 2nd came out because I didn't have a gaming PC back when Crysis was new. I was very disappointed. All I heard was it was STILL the best looking game ever! Well... no, it was pretty well dated. Sure, when you modded the shit out of it it can look great but that's not the point. I was more impressed with Crysis 2 than I was with Crysis 1. Gameplay in 2 wasn't the greatest but I had enough fun to finish.

sort of off topic question, but ive never used a mod in any game before. Is it hard at all to do? If im using steam or origin - will it make it harder to do, and will i ever be accused of cheating? Do people use mods when playing multiplayer?

I have crysis 1 and 2 and STILL havent played them yet for this reason. I want to set them up to look awesome before i play through.

The stock version of Crysis 2 is barely better than the stock version of Crysis 1/Warhead, with that being said it IS better, which does make it one of the top looking games out there (probably top ten) the reason Crysis 2 gets such a bad rap (and why people say it looks 'bad' etc.) is mostly because it was such a dissapointing game for what it could have and should have been, considering the new tech at the time of launch and the years it took to be released. So while we can nit-pick at people who say it looks like 'crap', I generally take that response as more about disappointment than an actual reference to the actual graphical merits of the game. Some people just get worked up by those comments though.

Turn Vsync on.
And the game is not bad looking and is much better than most of the games currently out there. It is pretty much what you get when the game is set in a city. The only problem was with the linear gameplay and the shallow plot.
