Funny you say that, because power flickered out briefly as I left this morning and my computer shut down. However, I didn't bother restarting it, because the power has been doing this all morning, and will probably continue to happen.

Sounds like you should use some of those hard-earned mining profits on a nice UPS. ;)

my two were victims of me letting windows update auto-install :/

back up, now to 1.4 ghash via 2x6950 and 2x5870

one of the 6950s is getting watercooled, but probably not for a few weeks

why is just one of the 6950s getting watercooled and not both? I have both of my 5870 on water now... running at 46C and 400Mhash each.

only one is reference, the other is a later rev Sapphire with a custom heatsink etc.

I need to shader unlock them both, the Sapphire one's dual fan cooler can handle it, the REF one, it gets pretty hot.(but its on a rack at work right now :p)

and $$$$.

my wife would shit a brick if she saw me spend about 800 bucks on watercooling stuff, especially on something thats likely to produce ZERO return :p

i'm starting to switch over to a universal waterblock (swiftech mcw82)... that way it's just a one time cost and i can transfer the blocks from gpu to gpu... i'll no longer have to worry about whether the gpus are reference or not.

as for my two 5870s.. one is reference and the other is not... EK sells a full coverage block for a non reference 5870.

EKs are very nice blocks, but to keep my cost down, i'm going to switch to the swiftech mcw82..

Yep I decided to do that a long time ago as well...it beats spending $100+ on a custom block for every card. Performance is not extreme but I'd rather not spend loads on computer hardware anymore.

I've used my DD Maze4 acetal on a X1800XL, 8800GT, 4870, GTX460 (custom made a mount for like $5), and now my 6950 as well. Thankfully ATI has kept the same bolt pattern for a while now. nV's kept changing. My 6950 at 850MHz is running at 52C at full load while mining so I'm happy.

really weird spike in network hash rate today. assuming a fair number of miners stopped/paused when the btc went down to 7$, then when it went to 10$ more hashpower than when the price was 14$ suddenly came on line then off.

I'm wondering if artforz did a test of his asic cluster.

not a bad idea

they didnt list my 5870 as compatible with the later rev waterblock

my linuxcoin miner has locked up and crashed hard twice

cant look at it till tomorrow now

no idea WTF is going on, its an older 450w antec, I guess it could be dying?

its just a old ass e6600 c2d, 2x2gb of RAM, the 6950, a flash drive, and a 120mm fan

Or luck and a few blocks were solved very quickly. With difficulty being so high if a few blocks are solved in quick succession the estimated hash rate will jump massively. The only way to estimate hash rate is how quickly blocks are solved on average. So the graphs can be misleading, especially in the short term.

Not sure if you updated to Cats 11.7 but ever since I did it has been BSODing constantly. I rolled back to 11.6. Hopefully that will solve it. First time I'm having to roll back an ATI driver!!

The 11.7 drivers didn't work for me,i would start mining with 1 card and the hash rate was good then when i started the other card the hash rate on the first card would drop and i had to roll back to 11.6

Yeah my hash rate was slightly better (~5MHash/sec) with 11.7 but the constant BSODs were not worth it.

Are you seriously mining a 6950 with a 450W psu?

That's nothing. It's not like he is running both his CPU and GPU at full load. Regardless, I ran my i7 3.9ghz (99% load in Seti@Home) + HD6950 unlocked into a 6970 (99% load in MilkyWay@Home) at the same time on a 520W since February (that is until I started mining).

i7 3.9ghz by itself consumes 250-275W. Quality power supplies can run 24/7 100% load at their rated watttage. This isn't Rosewill or Aspire/Apevia crap. :p

oh .. that reminds me... i'm switching one of my miners over to water.. cpu(i920) and three gpu(5830)... before i switched i measured temps of the gpu under load at 30% fans and 100% fans with and without gpu and gpu mem oc in various configurations.... well..cpu idle and with fans 100% gpu oc to 900(? i think thats what it was) and mem down clock to 500(?), i was drawing @640W while mining as measured from the display on my ups (i baked my kilowatt).

once i have everything switched over, i'll measure again and see how everything does underwater.

sink or swim :hmm:

oh yeah... it's an antec 1000 psu that i got a few years ago.

I think the guy rolled 11.7 into the linux distro

uh....200w tdp gpu? its an OLD antec though, not sure if its the PSU or the linux locking up

I will toss my killawatt on it in a few and check the numbers

that should be enough depending on what the psu is

yeah, its an old antec, from a sonata II(it was still in the case so I used it......:p

mostly Im just messing with linuxcoin on it at this point, the card is due for the water treatment.

but I have to migrate my File Server to its rackmount chasis first before I mess with that machine
