It is private property, they can do what they want. Sad that people feel they need to have a firearm everywhere. I totally support gun rights, but this is just nuts. I have a friend who works IT and he does concealed carry at work, imo I think he is just being overly paranoid. And for those who will cite being going postal, how often does that really happen? More than 99% of people will go their entire lives never being in such a situation.

Well said.

They are well within their constitutional rights as a property/business owner to post restrictions and not allow firearms on the premise. And as a firm 2nd A supporter, that's the way it should be. I don't have to support or like the company's decision, but it's theirs to make.

Thats why I like the conceled carry weapons permit. No people can see your firearm so to them you are a standard unarmed civilian. As soon as something goes down you are ready to defend yourself and others and nobody was the wiser. CCW saves lives. What they didn't know didn't hurt them. It saved their lives.

If you don't like the rules then get out of that company.

See how easy that was.

Surely if people don't like guns they shouldn't be working for a company that supports people that use them

Therefore the "crybabies" are the ones that should really leave...

How easy what that

Many of you are not understanding and are quoting constitutional rights, private property rights etc... I'm not even trying to go there. And I don't really feel offended enough to go and find another job either.

My point was that people here saw guns holstered and on a group of armed guards and got scared. What I object to is the paranoia displayed at my company that forced the creation of this policy. The blatantly obvious fact aside that they are company employees and paid to be armed, I find people get so scared by the presence of a gun that they go off and complain to management. How do these people feel around police officers, soldiers and other armed guards? This paranoia is stupid, unfounded and unwarranted.

I don't disagree with that. Armed security should be allowed to carry when appropriate.
I also don't really have a problem with the company requiring them to check their firearms before entering when they're on "normal business."

I worked construction for decades. Many jobs were in secure facilities, and there was armed security at the gates as well as roving patrols. All other employees were forbidden to carry, whether they had a concealed weapons permit or not. It was cause for immediate termination.

Meh, it sounds like the rule just applies to the Datacenter. Just because you provide armed security to 15 sites in a city, doesn't necessarily meant you are going to allow firearms in your server room.

But I would agree that if you are paying someone to carry a gun it would be strange to bar them from carrying on your own facilities.

So I just contradicted myself. Carry on.

YEs because guns in holsters are so dangerous to server equipment.

No firearms policies are idiotic and do nothing to prevent someone from using a firearm. It doesn't cast some magical spell and repell firearms. I look at signs like that and immediately think the person that approved it is an idiot that doesn't have the ability to think rationally.

Every company I've ever worked for has had a no firearms on company property policy.

Big fucking deal...

I'll back up your worthless statement with mine by saying that every place I've worked at since highschool has had men with guns on property.

I hate that the US is so full of paranoid lunatics that feel the need to carry around killing machines with them.

This is the first company I've worked at where this policy exists. Its like enacting this polcy at a police station or military base. Our division supports these armed officers in the field disallowing them entry is disrespectful.

What gets me is the paranoia surrounding guns and weapons. If someone wants to kill me, they will do it. Whether or not guns are "permitted." What if a cop needed to come onsite too? I don't see the difference between these armed guards and a police officer.

We're not allowed to just carry around arms at the base where I live/work. Only very specific people carry arms.

How's that crime rate in that state of yours with some of the strictest firearm laws in the nation?

How is the crime rate in the rest of the civilized world where they have the same amount of guns, but less gun crazed paranoid lunatics?

The paranoia and obsession in this country is astounding and scary as all hell.

Oh, and btw, I'm not pro gun control... I am anti paranoid delusional low lives obsessing about guns all the time and demanding to carry the killing machines on their person. Insane and absolutely not part of a civilized society.

maybes hes carrying because *gasp* he doesnt go straight from home to work and back ETC and the more you are out in public the higher % chance you have of being a victim of a crime? as for hte 99% 1%, well, if everyone took that approach then we'd be screwed when it did happen eh?

we dont need an army UNTIL someone invades right?

But they're making the guards be unarmed it appears. I've worked at places with several armed guards and it was nice.

yeah thats BS. a city manager near me said in the paper that he would prefer it if police didnt bring their guns into the municiple bldg, the chief told him thats fine, but it means you wont have the PD in the building ever

People all doped up on IPX and RIP/SAP. We call them "NetWare Heads".

LOL nice

the famous no gun UK has a higher rate of violent crime. I posted links to that in one of HAL9000's 90000 antigun threads

I hate how the US is so full of paranoid lunatics that see a gun and think it means someone is going to go on a murderous rampage.

I agree with your co-workers.
At least once a day I read a news article about a gun jumping out of a holster, running up some stairs and the shooting someone that was standing around the water cooler talking about "Entourage" when they should have been working.

That was never said. Strawman away!

The US has higher gun crimes with the same amount of guns per population.
