I needed to brush up on my 3D modeling/rendering, so I decided to design an internet tablet as practice.

Here are a couple of the rough first draft renders, just looking for input / features that people would like to see on an internet tablet (if you're into that sort of thing), that I can add to the model. (Or any rendering tips to make it a bit more realistic... (using Lightwave 9))

The renders are to scale for a 11.3" 16x9 screen (capacitive multitouch of course :) ) and is 10mm thick at the "fattest" parts.

Behold, the first draft "AT-Pad" ;)

It's a start, but here's my suggestions:

- No electronics devices nowadays have sharp edges - I'd suggest beveling the all the sides - and from a design perspective, what makes this tablet distinctive from, say, the hundreds of Chinese knockoffs that will flood the market soon after the Crunchpad (or whatever it is being called now) is released? Since this is YOUR creation and obviously you'd want to make it special, try to re-imagine it's size or shape if possible.

-Speaking of, the same thing applies with the buttons - you should make the labels (power, volume up/down, etc) bigger on the buttons themselves to make it clearer/user-friendly, and again look at your keyboard or any of your electronic devices - do any of those have completely flat buttons, unless they're flush against the surface? I'd say raise/impress them a bit to distinguish them AS buttons from the ports.

- And what are all those ports supposed to be? You need to add in additional details to make the ports seem like what they are - like for instance; adding in a headphone plug and color-coding it pink like they do in some component parts, or putting in raised lettering by the USB port to say - obviously - USB.

- And since you have a name for the device how about putting a label/logo on it somewhere? And furthermore, I'd like to see more color on it - maybe make the casing a bright metallic color other than dull grey - unless you're trying to impress the corporate set - and then even if it's grey, how about making it a light metallic color or adding a design on the casing?

Again, it's a start, but it's a bit too simple at this stage - I'd suggest adding in more to make it stand out!

EDIT: And one more thing - you should resize your images so some the resolution-handicapped *cough*ME*cough* can see the images fine - no offense meant but all the details can be seen fine even if it's shrunk by 50%.
