Crunchers need a case

I currently have 6 ATX motherboards crunching DPAD at work. They are in a spare cubicle and they are just bare motherboards/power supplies/hard drives either in a bookcase or just out on the desktop. Not only unsightly, but makes them vulnerable to cleaning people and curious fingers.

Does anyone have some old ATX cases that you just haven't bothered tossing out? They don't need power supplies, and they don't need to be very good cases, just presentable with front and side covers.

If so, send me a PM. I'll gladly send PayPal money to cover your full shipping cost plus 10% to cover any PayPay losses.

I want to keep these guys running, but I'm afaid that if I don't get it tidied up, I may have to disassemble and remove them.

Thanks - JonB

I don't plan on putting this in any other forum topic, just for fellow DC'ers.

Um, I might be able to help you out. I'll have to check out what I have. I'll take some pics and get back to you.

I know I have one that I can give you. Let me take a look when I get home and I can probably even get you a picture or two. I was just thinking the other day that I needed to get rid of an ATX case or two 🙂

Any idea what the shipping on an ATX box might be?

Without PS probably around $12.00 to $15.00 each.
bty I have a few old AT cases if you think you can make them work.

I have an old ATX case w/o power supply. Its the "crappy" small style, where the PSU is directly above the cpu (you have to remove the PSU to change the cpu). Its very light (and rattles a little bit), so it would be cheap to ship.

I have 2 or 3 Antec mid-tower ATX cases that were headed for the trash bin. I moved all my puters over to Koolance cases and have been giving the old cases away to any takers. The wife doesn't like em just laying around and wants to toss em. I'll send you more info when I get home and can verify what's there.

I have an extra ATX case in Denison, TX if you want it. (don't remember what psu it has right off hand)

you can have it for free if you want to drive up here to get it (about an 1 1/2 - 2hr drive from granbury depending on construction/traffic)......my wife want to be rid of it (I'll even throw in a DVD-rom drive and some other useful components that I have that I don't feel like putting them on e-gay just to get rid of them)

$33 for new cases w/300W psu's

Is that dealsonic.com a good place to get cases from? They sure seem hella cheap. While I love Newegg, there cases always arrive all dented, some even crushed in the corner.

I've never bought any from them myself, but I know a few people who have, you still have the same risk of shipping damages, they ship them with the same packaging as newegg. (in the box that comes from the manufacturer)

For what it's worth, my Lian Li PC-60 arrived from Newegg in fine condition. It shipped in the manufacturer's box, which was a bit dented on the outside (not to mention extremely dirty), but the case inside was pristine (until it sat in my house for a few minutes and got smothered in dust). 😉

Yeah my biggest problems with Newegg were with those light aluminum cases, one was literally tacoed/dented in the corner, just was all messed up. Half the time, the styrofoam is broken beyond any point of helping (if it really does in the first place).

UPS says your suppose to have 6 inches out of styrofoam when shipping computers, but an empty case is lucky to have an inch these days.

Maybe the fault lies on the manufacturer...just sucks cause you want to save a few bucks by buying online versus retail, but you dont save anything when you have to pay for shipping it back for an RMA (sometimes more than once), not to mention your time. Ok, I'm done venting...sorry.

I have 1 Beige Antec midtower and 1 beige generic (Compusa?) midtower. Both are in good shape. Send me PM with address and I'll get a shipping estimate for you.

Moltres, you have PM.

Thanks, guys. I have all I can use now. I'll post before (what a mess!) and after pics.
