Cruncher Quandry

I have a 400MHz AMD K6-2 machine (will probably OC to about 420-450) that I could have up and running by tomorrow. Is it really worth it to load F@H (preferred) or Seti on it? Also, is it worth it to keep the ~384MB of RAM in there or will less be fine (if I ever need PC100 somewhere else), and would adding a video card (running onboard video for now) noticeably help out ? Thanks for the help!

EDIT: If anyone wants to donate a Socket A chip and some DDR RAM I could rebuild my A7N8X Deluxe and use that to crunch... 😛

It seems a little too slow for F@H. You shouldn't time out since the benchmark system is a celeron 500, but it won't be fast.

SETI might make more sense, since it seems to scale in a more linear fashion.

Can't help you with a socket A chip, but I do have a 486SX25 you can have cheap.😛

Hi MonkeyDriveExpress,

Well I don't know about F@H , but Seti is going to take like 30-35hrs a wu on that. So it's up to you
to decide what you want to crunch. 🙂 Someone will be around soon and let you know about
F@H times, could be worth it!

Well, I got the sucker up to 475MHz (for some crazy reason the bus seems to run 5 MHz lower than what I set it at) and it's been Prime95 stable for a few hours which is a minor miracle considering that the thing is running on a PC Chips motherboard. In Sandra's arithmetic tests it scores a bit under a PIII 550 and about the same as a ~500MHz K6-2 . I'll give F@H a whirl and see what happens once I find a wireless card for it (so I can shove the thing in a closet or something).
