Probably about the same w/o OCing. I'm not a Linux expert by any stretch either, but running the VM should double your ppd and is very easy to do.
 
Great, I've made up my mind. Time to sell my Xeon on ebay and get me an i7. I doubt anyone wants to buy it here on the forums.
