Cruise Control not working

Just bought a 2001 Ford Focus SE Wagon with a Zetec, Auto, ect. Everything works fine but the cruise control. I get the cruise light but thats it. If I hit the brake the light goes off like its suppose to. I checked the cable going from the cruise box to the T/B and its fine. I checked fuses aswell which are fine. All brake lights works and all since I read if one light it blown it will cause the cruise not to work.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Silly question #1, are you sure you are actually entering cruise control and not just readying the system. I am saying this because most cars I have driven have some kind of 'on' switch and then an actual 'activation' switch.

If it's vacuum operated, I'd look at the vacuum lines and possibly the vacuum diaphragm.

There may also be a vacuum switch on the brake pedal.

Not sure if yours is vacuum operated, though.

Its not afaik,

but yeah when I press on nothing happens till I try to set the speed then the light comes on the panel but the car just comes to stop. If I hit the brake or hit off the light goes out.
