I had been researching this memory before I bought it earlier this year (winter). I bought it on good confidence of all the glowing reviews I've seen about the OCability of the chips, rock solid stability, value, etc.

Seems I was mistaken.

The reviews I had read were all about the double-sided Ballistix Tracers, while I received single-sided POS modules. I have recently RMA'd them after discovering them to be the source of BOTH (yes, TWO) reformats; a corrupt RAID-0 array and a bad Windows install. (Instability = random crashes = lost data/corruption).

They were instable in either 1 - 4 GB configurations, at seemingly any speed or voltage. I had tried 1.8 - 2.2V, DDR2-800, 900, 1000 and 1066, and a range of relaxed timings.

GG Crucial, GG.

I did specifically request double-sided DIMMs, their 2 x 2GB kit to replace all four of my sticks even, so let's see how this pans out. I'm shipping them off tomorrow.

I have the exact opposite experience with Ballistix. Both vanilla & tracer. It might be your mobo. The earlier bioses weren't as good as the recent ones.

It is interesting you mention that, seeing as I have an ealier BIOS version on here. I will update that following this post.

However, I have some older PC2-6400 OCZ ATI Cf. Ed. 2 x 1GB sticks which run flawlessly (as you can see in sig I am using them right now).

EDIT: Seems that my 'earlier BIOS' is still the newest. 03/19/08 :(

Weird, because I have a pair of Crucial Ballistix, and everything is fine.
Never really had a problem with them.
Crucial even sent my rebate early :p.

I bought some PC6400 Ballistix recently and afterwards checked the reviews on Newegg. Lots of people complaining about problems with a specific batch. Checked mine and was that same batch (93742 I believe). Didn't have any problems and passed several hours of memtest but decided to exchange it anyways (for Corsair) cause I didn't want to bother RMA's any memory. Several of those complaints were up to one month after first using the memory

Batch 97432 were definitely duds! i had to send back 4 (2x1) kits to crucial -- memtest errors galore, corrupt hd, unable to boot...! my rma replacements were double sided and have worked great since! :)

I had gotten the bad batch(97432) and they lasted about 3 days, then they went poof. RMAed them which took about a week and got the double sided stuff back. HAve not really been able to test them as I am using my Mobile Desktop board, but I have them at 580MHz 3-3-3-9 at 1.8v. No problems with them yet but they should not have any problems at this speed anyways.

Same here, I even bought a spare set to get it up to 4x1GB. All four sticks run ok so far *knock on wood*

Also got 4 x 1GB Ballistix Tracers PC8500, they ran great, 1066MHz 5,5,5,15 @ 1.9V with all 4 sticks installed. My only complaint is that they are extremely hot, even at idle 1.9V. Would burn my finger if I touch them for more than 2 seconds.
