I'm looking to buy a notebook system for college from Dell. Their PIII Inspiron 5000 series notebooks have expensive memory configuration options like around $285 for 1 128 MB SODIMM or about $700 for 2 128 MB SODIMMs, but Crucial sells a "compatible" 128 MB SODIMM on their website for $150 per SODIMM. That would mean a $400 savings if I went with 2 SODIMMs of 128 MB of Crucial memory instead of Dell's. That seems too good to be true though. Is there some performace or stability issue with Crucial's memory? Would a 128 MB Crucial SODIMM be compatible with Dell's standard 64 MB SODIMM? Should I go for the Crucial memory?
Thanks.
