Crucial pulls their head out....Crucial® Radeon? 9700 Pro clocked 325/310

After their humiliating launch of the Crucial 8500LeLeLeLe, Crucial wakes up and fly's straight with the Crucial Radeon 9700 pro. Appropriately clocked for the so called "Memory Expert". Now thats more like it....nice work.

Hello Rick,

Thanks for your interest in Crucial. Our 9700 Pro is built with 2.8ns DRAM
and meets all ATI specifications which means the card is guaranteed with
DRAM that runs at 310MHz and the VPU at 325MHz. Given the speed of our
memory, however, it's possible to achieve higher speeds.

All the 9700 cards have ram rated at 350MHz (2.86ns). I don't know if Crucial will run theirs faster than the usual 310MHz, but I doubt it. Where does it say it'll be clocked at 350?

Exactly... you guys are making a big deal out of a card that is nothing more than the refrence design... same PCB, same memory, same heatsink... you get the idea. As spicedaddy said, ALL 9700pro's have 2.86 memory. ATI has even came out and made a statement on this... All 9700pro's, whether they be built by ATI, OEM, or built by another card maker will run at 310/325.

That's RATED SPEED!! And once again, ALL 9700 cards have 2.86ns (350MHz rated) ram.

Review of the retail ATI card:
The Radeon 9700 Pro comes with 128MB of this memory, manufactured by Samsung, and rated at 350 MHz (700 MHz DDR). Even though the memory is capable of clocking much higher, ATI has gone on the safe side and clocked the cards to run the memory at a conservative 620 MHz.

My ColorPower Radeon 9700 Pro came with the exact memory modules on it (Samsung) that I saw in the photograph in AnandTech's review. Kind of a bummer because it was misrepresented by Monarch Computer to come with faster 2.0 nano-second memory. It doesn't. It's exactly the same as a retail ATI.

Exactly... you guys are making a big deal out of a card that is nothing more than the refrence design... same PCB, same memory, same heatsink... you get the idea. As spicedaddy said, ALL 9700pro's have 2.86 memory. ATI has even came out and made a statement on this... All 9700pro's, whether they be built by ATI, OEM, or built by another card maker will run at 310/325.

Well Einstein(s) my point was that the Radeon 8500 crucial released previous was fitted with 6ns micron ram, which didn't exactly compare favorably with the retail Radeon's fitted with 3.6ns ram...or some OEM variants with 3.3ns Ram. The fact that it is a reference design, clocked at retail speeds makes it newsworthy IMHO, and was the gist of my post and title.

Well Einstein... you might want to fix the title of your post, because when I read it my immediate thought was that Crucial is offering a card that has a higher memory clock than all other 9700pro's on the market. IMHO offering a refrence design card is hardly news worthy... especially when the specs are predetermined by the original manufacturer.
