Crucial PC1600 RAM at PC2100 speeds with A7M266?

Hey Guys,

I've read some post on the net saying that Crucial PC1600 ddr ram runs fine
at 133fsb on the A7M266. Is this true. I mean has anyone tried this. I
ordered the A7M266, Crucial PC1600, and Duron 800 proc on Friday. Im hoping
that I will be able to overclock it to at least 967mhz. Has anyone
succesfully tried to run Crucial PC1600 DDR at PC2100 speeds on the A7M.

I got the Iwill KA266 with Crucial PC1600. It works flawlessly at 133mhz fsb. I cranked it to 137 and it posted, (i didn't check to see if it was stable in windows) and it choked before the post at 140). That's not to say it will work on your ASUS. I've heard bad stability issues for the AMD chipset. Most vendors, including ASUS, have recently dumped the chipset in favor of the ALI Magik 1, or have decided to wait for the VIA alternative.

koltzy, try becoming a little better informed before you fling rumors like that. Asus has not dropped the chipset. They have put the board on temporary suspend because they can't get a large enough quantity of the chipset, that's all. And no, the board is not unstable - I have it and it is working perfectly fine.

Thats true. Asus only temporarily cancelled the A7M266 due to chipset shortages. After putting multiplier switches on my A7M266 and modifying the L3/L4 bridges, I got a 9X multiplier for my 1.2GHz Athlon. This thing flies and most importantly is very stable. Even with AGP 4X, Fast Writes, and Sidebanding all enabled. I have PC2100 DDR memory at 266 2-2-2, but I've heard from some people saying that they are able to get their PC1600 memory at 266DDR. They had to use higher memory timings though.
