Crucial mem + Asus A7V-333 problem!

I thought my Asus motherboard was dead but I went to my friends house and tried me stuff in his computer and found the folowing:
My memory (Crucial 256Mb PC2700) works with his CPU (AXP1600+)
My CPU (AXP1700+) worked with his memory (Crucial 256mb PC133)

but, when I put my memory and my CPU together I had the same problem as I do at home (i.e. blank screen, no BIOS beep etc)

So, I took his CPU and my memory and put them into my motherboard and they did not work!!!

Thing is I had just ordered a £100 replacement Asus A7V-8X and I'm worried that my mobo is not at fault.

Is there a way of telling whether my CPU/memory/mobo/all of them are ruined?

They used to work fine until a slight accident where the heatspreader fell off my ram onto the mobo!

Would you say it was okay to sell the Asus A7V-333 when I get my new mobo or is it likely that the mobo is damaged? Note that I have no extra DDR memory to test it with!

What about testing your board with his memory and either working CPU? That seems to be the logical thing to do if you suspect your RAM is bad.

Sounds to me like your memory is bad.....your memory paired with either CPU in either your or his motherboard causes it not to work...any other configuration with his memory seems to work.

hmmm; the thing is that his mobo (ECS K7S5A) supports SDRAM and DDR - I use DDR and he uses PC133 so there's no way of us swapping memory unfortunately.

I have spoken to the IT technicial at school and he says that if the CPU and memory were both in at the same time when my mobo died then I may have damaged an element that prevented them running together - as each memory/CPU batch has a slightly different stepping and clockspeed (to 100th of a Mhz). He says it would still be okay to sell my XP chip and my memory to seperate people as the chance of someone running the CPU with the exact same batch of memory I have is extremelly unlikely. Same goes for the memory.

DOes this sound feasible to you?

I will likely just order a cheap XP1600+ and some good DDR (i'm looking for some right now in the sales forum) and try to sell the stuff maybe on line or to my friends. However, I am not willing to sell stuff that may be broken so I wonder what your opinions are.

Thanks guys,
