crucial M500 not listed

I have it installed & powered, windows 8.1 can see it in device manager however it does not show up as a drive or have any option to save to it. I want to do a clean install of windows 8 to this drive any suggestions?

It's never been partitioned or formatted? Hook the drive up by itself. Install windows.

It hasn't been partitioned or formatted. Do you mean disconnect my mechanical drive and reinstall?

Yes (if you want to install windows to that drive as your boot/system drive). Add mechanical drive after windows is installed.

Ugggh I can't do this. I originally activated with vista, I then upgraded to windows 8. The vista key won't work for the install.

Twice the work.. Install vista, upgrade to 8..

Install 8 w/o a key, then install 8 w/ the key.

That should work, but with Windows 8, there is another step that you may have to do.
