Crucial m4 or samsung 830

Hi guys I managed to gather all the money for my long awaited upgrade i have amd 4200 and ddr1 lol... and an SSD is a priority for me,I was pretty convinced about getting the samsung 830 for around 170 euros but a friend of mine told me of an discount in m4 for only 120 euros...both are great but 50 euros are a considerable amount..which one should i buy?

For that kind of price difference, M4 all the way. Samsung is a little faster, but the real world difference should be negligible.

If the Plextor M3S or M3P is available, those would be good choices too. As fast or faster then the M4 and 830.

But I'd go with whichever is the best deal for the $$/euro. All three are great drives.

Hi guys and thank you for the responses...i have an amd 64 athlon 4200+ (Windows Ultimate 32bit) at the moment but next month I am going IVY baby 😀... I will buy i5-3570K...I noticed that m4 is dropping a lot in price maybe because crucial will release something newer? Nevertheless samsung in anandtech's bench beats m4 nearly in every category I might go for that at the end.

Sorry to hijack your post but,

I've been seeing the M4 price going down a lot lately, do you think they're using cheaper/lower quality/smaller process NAND? something like the OCZ "incident"?

I hope it's just inventory cleaning like angro says.

Just wanted to agree with the sentiment stated through this thread. Between the 2 ssd's in the OP, go with whichever is cheaper. I have both the M4 and 830 in 256 GB flavor. Unless benchmarking, I cannot tell the difference bewtween the two. As stated, in real world use, neither is "better" than the other.
Get the cheaper one and be happy with it.

I'm interested in 128gb so i dont know....if there is no much difference at all I will wait when i buy the other components and buy the cheaper ssd at that period of time thank you all for the help 😀

It's just inventory clearing out. Marvell has a new controller out and crucial is probably going to announce the next gen m4 (m5?) soon.

@OP: for that much of a price difference you should go for the m4. Reliability is comparable between the 2 ssd's, and samsung is certainly a bit faster, but the real world benefit of the samsung over the m4 in a typical light/medium usage scenario is minimal.

I heard the Crucial SSDs have incompatibility problems with Intel CPUs/chipset. Is this true?

No.
