Crucial M4 on Intel G31 and ICH7

I'm planning to get a Crucial M4, but the computer uses this old Intel G31 and ICH7 chipsets and E5200 CPU. I don't believe the motherboard supports AHCI either. It's an ASUS P5PKL-CM. The computer is running Windows 7.

Will there be any problems running off the chipset and without AHCI? Maximum performance isn't too important, as long as it's a good difference from Hard disks and the SSD doesn't degrade too fast. Can I still get TRIM support as well?

That's not that old. It's Core 2 and is plenty of performance still. It's SATA 2 and supports AHCI. Just set it in the BIOS to 'enhanced.'

as far as I know, ICH7 does not have AHCI support. I have two PCs with at, and neither have AHCI drivers or AHCI options in BIOS.

I wouldn't worry about it. The SSD will improve performance much more than it would lose from lack of NCQ. Just go for it!

If you run it native SATA (but not AHCI), can't you install RST and get NCQ?
