Amazon has the Crucial M4 512GB SSD for $399. I'm thinking of getting it for my ThinkPad W520, but I am wondering whether this SSD isn't too old considering it came out last year and new SSDs are being released.

It's not the fastest drive on the block anymore, but for real-world usage scenarios you aren't going to be able to tell the difference.

^ what he said.

I got my m4 256GB and I don't see difference in my real world usager compared to my 128GB C300 ... except for drvie capacity of course 😀

Is it faster than the OCZ Agility 3? I had it for a brief period before I returned it. And, the Agility ran my VMs really FAST.

My SSD arrives today or tomorrow latest.

amazon takes away the deal sometimes and sells for 420 or soo , I got from B & H for 399.99 to the door.

The controller of the m4 should be faster than the Agility 3's controller in read-intensive or compressed workloads. Furthermore, the m4 uses synchronous (higher performance) NAND, while the Agility 3 uses slower asynchronous memory. This means that the m4 will generally outperform the Agility 3 in most tasks.
