Crucial C300 in desktop-how did you mount?

I just got my c300 and after working with other SDD drives it never dawned on me it would be so tiny (yes the pictures should have been a clue!). How are you guys mounting these in your Desktop cases? As an avid RC hobbiest i was thinking some double sided servo tape...

C300 is the Crucial SSD. Corsair drives are labeled with F,V, or P depending on the model.

But to answer your question, I assume most people would be using a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting bracket they would've looked to include when they bought it for a desktop.
 
Igemini- opps thanks for pointing that out, to much parts comparing, got some names mixed up (corrected now).

My mistake, I have used SSD beofre but all where in the Laptop sized box with screw holes. this one is smooth.. no screw holes anywhere (and mini Sata dang it!) So i ordered an adaptor but didnt see a good way to mount it in a desktop. I cant use the standard mounting kits as it has no way to attach it as I say, no screw holes anywhere.

Burner, hmm i was looking on egg and missed that one it seems. my have to order that.

I was just wondering what others are using as it seems to be used in quite a few builds.
 
Did you get the 1.8" C300 or something? If so a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter won't work. You'll need to get something different.

Or just use double sided tape to secure it somewhere in the case, that's the nice thing about SSD, you don't really have to worry about mounting angle, heat, etc.
 
yes, this is stupid BUYER (me) as I have said I have worked with a few SSD and they have all been compatible with adaptors (laptop HD size) and had mounting screw holes. Purchasing my new one after reading reviews I didnt LOOK at the picture I just assumed. it has no screw holes anywhere. The instructions with it say it should work in a HD caddy in a laptop, but it sure looks like it would flop around to me.

I get it, I bought the incorrect one, anotehr assumptiont he c300's where all the same, eveidntly from the mounting brackets people ahve pointed out they are not.

Just a uninformed buyer (me). thanks for all the responces. I do know better.
 
Sounds like you did get the 1.8" version. I hope it's complete because the SATA and power connectors are every so slightly different and the 1.8" to 2.5" adapter is not common. The SATA connector is slightly thinner and the power it accepts is probably 3.3v not the standard 2.5" 5v or 3.5" 12v. The adapter will have a straight-thru SATA data connector and a tiny transformer for power allowing you to use it as a standard 2.5" and 3.5" drive.

As for mounting, the 1.8" is tiny and light. I had a 1.8" Intel and took it out of it's case and it was as small as laptop RAM. I just mounted it whereever the SATA and power cables wanted to rest, then used some leftover Blu-Tak. I'm sure duct tape will be plenty. 🙂

If you plan to running it bare, take care not to let it touch anything metallic and cause a short.

I got an adapter with my Intel SSD, and when I added another SSD I found that it actually held 2 drives at once.

So that's what I'm using.
 
I plan on using 3M poster tape and stick it to the 3.5" caddy in my HAF922. I'm excited that I have another 2TB hitachi AND my first SSD on the way (same one as the OP, but 128GB and 2.5").
 
Heh, mine is just sitting on top of the hard drive for the time being, should be getting all the airflow it needs. Its a SSD so not like it really needs to be anchored down for vibrations and its light enough the sata cable alone holds it in well. I suppose at some point I'll upgrade cases to one with a proper slot.
 
For 2.5" drives, I go to REI and buy some shock cord. Run the cord through the 3.5" drive bays and tie a knot. twist two together to make it tight for a 2.5" drive and slip it in.

I think it takes about 2 feet of shock cord, it's like 10 or 15 cents a foot.

On an SSD you can use velcro too. This works for mechanical drives as well, and will essentially eliminate all the annoying seek noise some drives have.

OMG. 😀 I just use an $8 3.5" adapter. Less work.
