so random blue screens and finally
failing to load the os even in safe mode

i have 4x1gb ddr2 6400 sticks

my question at this poinjt

3/4 sticks do pass memtest and hci memtest

do i just rma the 1 bad stick?
or the pair that was sent to me last (matching pair)

Do you run memtest after installing? What voltages / timmings are you using?

If they came as a pair, then I would RMA the pair.

i took all 4 sticks out, then put 1 stick in at a time and ran memtest for 1 hr
found the 1 bad stick
i then put the remaining 3 sticks in leaving the bad 1 out and ran memtest over night
no issues

i then loaded HCI memtest within windows and let it run over 100% coverage
came back with 0 errors (with those 3 sticks)

stock voltage, timing cas 4-4-4-12 @ 2.0v
never overclocked

i have already contacted crucial for an rma on the bad stick

i think i will be moving to 2x2gb sticks now.

These die a lot, I had 2 sticks and both ended up dying at different times, did not bother to RMA them anymore as they would probably die again.

last time I contacted crucial on a suspected bad stick out of 4, they told me to return all 4 of them.

Your best bet is to contact crucial and see what they say.

yea just contacted them, they said 1 stick is fine, no need to send the other 3 or matching set of 2

I dunno, if I bought 'matched pair', then I would want a 'matched pair' returned to me.
Otherwise, what is the point of paying more for the 'matched pair' ?

I've had so many crucial sticks die it's not even funny. a 1066 pair died 3 times (RMAed 3x) and an 800 pair died twice(also RMAed 2x)

i was wondering that myself but he said the only ones they make are all spec'd the same @ 2.0v and it won't really matter as far as compatibility is concerned anymore

There is none if the kit price is higher.

kit price was actually cheaper, i think i paid 25 for the pair from frys
