had to rma these guys. Ran just fine at 1066 and 2.2v (stock) for 5 mos, one day started getting random errors. Ran memtest and one of the sticks was bad. Anyone else have this problem? I've heard mixed reviews on whether to run these at 2.2v, but they're rated for it so...

I've had a few kits of DDR2 1000 die on me, mainly due to my old board. However, I'm pretty sure one of the 1066 sticks they sent as replacement also died on me.....will get around to testing/RMA'ing it eventually. Nice thing is that Crucial is great with their RMA, but it just seems like the quality/life expectancy of RAM regardless of make just isn't what it used to be. I never OC'd these sticks or the DDR2 1000 btw, if anything I ran them underclocked. But ya, these and the Buffalo DDR2 800 kit I have run extremely hot with stock voltages of 2.2V. The G.Skill I'm running now are only 1.8-1.9V and run much much cooler.

I believe Micron sells their top grade ICs to other vendors for more $. The Crucial brand used to come with high quality ICs when RAM price was high. Currently, these modules can be hit or miss. I've seen some that will not POST and/or remain stable at 1.8V DDR2 800 speed. Good ICs should be able to hit 533MHz with only 2.0-2.1Vdimm. It's always best to put a fan above the RAMs if you're going to pump more than 1.9Vdimm.

More facts, less opinions please.

The Crucials have been clocking very well as of late.

Why does 1.8v DDR2-800 matter when the ram is rated for 2.2v @ 1066?

He had a bad stick of ram it happens.

In the end as long as the ram is warrantied you can run it to whichever speed and voltage you want! That is what you are paying for!

In the past 7 months I've used...

- 3x PC2-6400 Ballistix
- 2x PC2-6400 Tracer
- 2x PC2-6400 Lanfest 2k7

All of them have hit 550MHz CL5 with 2.1V, and I would assume PC2-8500 sticks can even do slightly better. If anything they seem to overclock better now than they did when the price was $300 a set, because I don't ever remember 550MHz being almost guaranteed with 2.1V - so I have to disagree there.

They are rated for 2.2V, but I never ran any at that voltage. 2.2V is for 600MHz attempts. The memory itself gets way too hot at this voltage. I wouldn't expect any RAM to last a year with 2.2V running through. I never ran above 2.1V, and I had a fan running over them.

A fan helped out very much as well. My memory went from very hot to the touch at 2.1V, to barely warm to the touch with the fan.
