Crucial Ballistix and Asus P5W DH Questions

Hello all.

Just bought a 2G set of Ballistix DDR2 800 to go into the P5W DH and I have a couple of questions about getting it set-up correctly in my build.

1.) Since this RAM operates at 2.2V, will I have problems getting the MB to POST at all?

2.) If I can make it to POST, all I need to do is to manually set the voltage to 2.2 and the timing to 4-4-4-12, correct? These are the specs given on the Crucial website.

I'm really going for stability and "out-of-the-box" speed. May dabble in OC'ing later. FWIW, here's the rest of the rig:

- C2D E6600
- (2) Seagate 7200.10 320G HD's on RAID 1 with Asus EZ Back-Up
- Fortron FX-600 Ellipson PSU
- Lite-On Combo Drive
- Lite-On Dual Layer DVD-R/RW w/LightScribe
- ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB (Not great, but I'm waiting for the DX 10 cards)
- Lian Li PC-65

Anyway, that's gonna' be my new rig. I'm excited, especially since my current rig is a Socket A KT880 with an Athlon XP 2000+! Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!

I doubt you will have any problems booting with the lower mem voltage. However, it often helps to try booting with a single stick, should there be any issues. Once in the bios, simply set the rated mem voltage, speed, and timings. Just so you know what to expect, your mem will likely be running at DDR2-533 on forst boot. That's the speed mem needs to run with the stock FSB (266) in order to avoid using a memory divider. If you leave the FSB at stock and set the mem speed to DDR2-800, the board will use the 2:3 FSB:MEM divider. In terms of real world performance, you'll be hard-pressed to notice the difference between the two scenarios.

Thanks, Phil!

I've been reading your posts...seems like you're one of the P5W "experts" around here. Speaking on the FSB/Memory divider issue, am I risking system stability by not increasing the FSB when I change the memory Config. to DDR2 800?

Thanks again for your input!

Since this board supports several dividers, including 2:3, you will have no trouble at all, running the mem at 800 with stock FSB.
